Host workshops for citizens interested <br />in: pursuing historic designation <br />(at any level), grant funding, proper <br />maintenance of older buildings, and <br />researching the history of a building. <br />Some workshops may be hosted with <br />City staff while others may require <br />external experts (paid or pro bono). <br />These workshops can be brief and do <br />not need to be full -day sessions. <br />2. Explore creating a virtual Maintenance <br />and Preservation Resource Center <br />with links to resources and database <br />of vendors to connect property <br />owners with qualified contractors and <br />specialists for building repair and <br />renovation. This can be modeled after <br />the San Antonio's Rehabber Club list <br />and include a link to Scott's Historic <br />Home Improvement Contractors List. <br />3. Consider starting a city -funded <br />program to offer significant financial <br />incentives for home improvements <br />to owners of buildings that are <br />historic age but are not designated <br />or necessarily historically significant. <br />This could supplement the City's <br />Community Development Block <br />Grant Program. The Richardson Home <br />Improvement Program highlighted <br />on the next page can be used as an <br />example. <br />4. Explore funding opportunities for <br />the preservation of historic buildings <br />in the East Guadalupe, Barrio de <br />la Victoria, and Barrio del Pescado <br />neighborhoods such as Cuauhtemoc <br />Hall, Southside School, Guadalupe <br />Chapel, La Victoria Grocery Store, <br />Mana's Restaurant, Southside Center, <br />La Palma Grocery/Tampico Mart. <br />SAN MARCOS HISTORIC PRESERVATION PLAN (2026) <br />
