Miss 011ie's Store Mural, 404 Centre Street (COSM) <br />COUNCIL FOR THE <br />INDIGENOUS AND TEJANO <br />COMMUNITY <br />STORIES OF OUR PEOPLE, BY OUR <br />PEOPLE, 2021 <br />A proclamation was adopted by Hays County <br />Commissioners Court recognizing Hispanic <br />Heritage Month and the contributions of <br />Indigenous and Tejano first families in Hays <br />County. To mark the occasion, Indigenous and <br />Tejano community members read aloud their <br />family histories and experiences. The recorded <br />meeting, titled "Stories of Our People, by <br />Our People" is available at the Council for the <br />Indigenous and Tejano community website. <br />A CENTURY OF TEJANO HISTORY, 2023- <br />ONGOING <br />This ongoing project by the CITC included oral <br />history interviews with eight families, six of which <br />are being made into short films highlighting the <br />history of Indigenous and Tejano families in Hays <br />County. After editing the raw footage into a short <br />film, each interview is screened at a public event, <br />then added to the CITC website, while the raw <br />footage and transcripts are archived at Texas <br />State University. To date, three films have been <br />completed and publicly screened, with additional <br />films in progress. <br />SAN MARCOS MURAL ARTS <br />PROGRAM <br />MS. OLLIE'S STORE MURAL AND ORAL <br />HISTORY, 2024 <br />The San Marcos Mural Arts Program <br />commissioned a mural, seen below, and oral <br />history collection to honor the legacy of Ms. <br />011ie Hamilton. Ms. 011ie owned and operated <br />011ie's Store, a general store, in the Dunbar <br />neighborhood for 46 years. She was known <br />for her willingness to help others by providing <br />shelter, food, and kindness to those in need. Ms. <br />011ie passed away in 1985, and the store was <br />willed to her family members. In 2017, it was sold <br />to its current owner. The mural and oral history <br />project was completed in 2024.
