P. <br />5 <br />I <br />Memorandum of Understanding <br />In and between <br />The City of San Marcos -Hays County, Texas & <br />Texas State University-San Marcos <br />This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the City of San Marcos, Hays County and <br />Texas State University-San Marcos has been developed to promote and facilitate planning for: <br />1) a watershed protection plan for the Upper San Marcos Watershed inclusive of the Sink Creek, <br />Sessom Creek, Willow Creek and Purgatory Creek Watersheds; <br />2) an innovative, collaborative effort to provide an environmentally sensitive, contiguous <br />greenspace from Spring Lake Hills, along Spring Lake and the San Marcos River, to Interstate 35. <br />This MOU is designed to assure that planning for this effort proceeds in a manner that is fully <br />supportive of the missions of all three entities. <br />It is the intent of the entities that the plan developed and implemented protects and enhances the <br />natural resources of Spring Lake and the San Marcos River. <br />The entities agree to work cooperatively to raise new funds to acquire, for passive, recreational <br />park area, the 251 acres of the Gilmore tract in Spring Lake Hills adjacent to the Texas Rivers Center <br />property. <br />The entities agree to work cooperatively to raise new funds to provide improvements to the <br />acquired land, as well as improvements to University-owned land and City-owned land in the proposed <br />greenspace area. <br />The entities agree to coordinate efforts to enhance the use of the contiguous greenspace and to <br />encourage best practices by the citizens of Hays County and the City of San Marcos and the students, <br />faculty and staff of Texas State University-San Marcos to protect the unique natural resources of Spring <br />Lake, the San Marcos River and the contributing watersheds. <br />Any of the three entities may terminate its participation in activities associated with this MOU by <br />notifying the other entities in writing. <br />City of San Marcos: <br />Susan Narvaiz, Ma r <br />Date: I W /0
