Section 12.02(c)(1) of the City Charter requires the Ethics Review Commission to reMew <br />the Code of Ethics ordinance (City Code Chapter 2, Article 5) at least once each year, and to make <br />recommendations for amendments to the City Council. <br />2. The Ethics Review Commission considered revisions to the Code of Ethics ordinance on <br />June 2, 2003, and recommended the revisions for adoption by the City Council. <br />The City Council has reviewed the revisions to the Code of Ethics recommended by the <br />Ethics Review Commission, and wishes to accept and implement some. of the recommended <br />revisions. <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, <br />TEXAS: <br />SECTION 1. Chapter 2, Administration, Article 5, Code of Ethics, of the City Code is <br />amended as follows (underlining indicates added text; ouarst4ka indicates deleted text): <br />DIVISION 1. GENERALLY <br />Sec. 2.421. Policy. <br />It is the policy of the city that all city officials and employees shall conduct themselves both <br />inside and outside the city's service so as to give no occasion for distrust of their integrity, <br />impartiality or devotion to the best interest of the city and the public trust which the city holds. <br />To this end and to expressly ensure its accomplishment, the city council establishes a code of <br />ethics for the city to serve as a guide for of4aial conduct of the city's public servants and as a <br />basis for discipline for those who violate its terms. <br />Sec. 2.422. Definitions. <br />In this article: <br />Benefit means anything reasonably regarded as pecuniary gain or pecuniary advantage, including <br />any money, real or personal property, purchase, sale, lease, contract, option, credit, loan, <br />discount, service or other tangible or intangible thing of value. Benefit includes a pecuniary gain
