Jctures on slopes, to guide flood waters <br />around ~~d away from proposed structures. <br /> <br />Sec. 5-64. <br /> <br />Floodwavs. <br /> <br />Floodways- located within areas of special flood hazard <br />are areas designated as floodways. Since the floodway is <br />an extremely hazardous area due to the velocity of flood <br />waters which carry debris, potential projectiles and erosion <br />potential, the following provisions shall apply; <br /> <br />a. Encroachments are prohibited, including fill, new <br />construction, substantial improvements and other development <br />unless certification by a professional registered engineer <br />is provided demonstrating that encroachments shall not <br />result in any increase in flood levels within the jurisdiction <br />during the occurrence of the base flood discharge. <br /> <br />b. If Section 5-64a above is satisfied, all new construction <br />and substantial improvements shall comply with all applicable <br />flood hazard reduction provisions of this ordinance. <br /> <br />Sec. 5-65. <br /> <br />Existing Structures. <br /> <br />Structures and uses of structures which lawfully exist prior <br />to adoption of these Standards and which do not conform with <br />their provisions, may be continued subject to the following <br />conditions: <br /> <br />a. Existing structures and uses within a floodway shall not <br />be expanded or enlarged unless the effect of proposed expansion <br />or enlargement does not cause additional increase in floodway <br />elevation during the occurrance of the base flood discharge, as <br />certified by a registered professional engineer. <br /> <br />b. Any repair, reconstruction or improvement of an existing <br />structure within a flood plain, which constitutes substantial <br />improvement shall be undertaken only in full compliance with <br />this Ordinance, and the owner shall be required to obtain a <br />Flood Plain Permit before repair, reconstruction or improvement <br />shall begin. <br /> <br />SECTION 2.
