<br />35 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION 1987-151R <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF SAN MARCOS DECLARING ITS SUPPORT FOR THE <br />LOCATION OF A MINIMUM SECURITY PRE-RELEASE <br />FACILITY IN THE SAN MARCOS AREA AND DECLARING <br />AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the San Marcos area is being considered for the <br />location of a minimum security pre-release facility to be operated <br />under contract with the Texas Department of Corrections: and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, said facility will be built and owned by <br />Becon-\vackenhut, Inc., a company with the technology and resources <br />necessary to make this project successful: and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, t.he location of said facilit.y in or near San Tt1arcos <br />will provide 126 direct and 8Ø indirect jobs for area residents: <br />and, <br /> <br />\-vHEREAS, said facilit.y will generate $2ØØ,ØØØ per year in <br />local taxes: and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, said facility will generate approximately <br />$2,ØØØ,ØØØ in additional revenues for other businesses in and <br />around San Marcos; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the total economic benefit t.O be realized by t.he <br />location of said facility in the San Marcos area is expected to be <br />$13,5ØØ,ØØØ; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the purposes of t.he pre-release facili t.y are in <br />keeping with the spirit of support for education, training and <br />opportunity characteristic of the San Marcos community; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Council strongly supports economic growth <br />and development in San Marcos and the surrounding area; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Planning and Zoning Commissions of the City of <br />San Marcos have declared their support. for: the location of said <br />facility in or near: the San Marcos area; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, <br />TEXAS: <br /> <br />PART 1. That the City Council of San Marcos supports the <br />location of a minimum security pre-release facility in or near San <br />Marcos, Texas. <br /> <br />PART 2.
