Action 1: Effectively support the expansion and retention of existing <br />businesses. <br />Develop Grow One San Marcos into a best practice business retent <br />expansion (BRE) program. <br />o <br />Ensure that at least one full-time staff member is dedicated to <br />building relationships with and tracking the needs of existing <br />businesses. <br />o <br />Schedule regular face-to-face meetings with local executives, initially <br />focusing on target business sectors, to develop strong referral <br />relationships. <br />o <br />Follow up on leads, concerns, and opportunities identified in <br />business calls. <br />o <br />Share the workforce-related results of the e-Synchronist survey with <br />local educators, training providers, the Rural Capital Area Workforce <br />Development Board, and Austin Community College. <br /> <br />Promote the services of business support organizations to raise awareness <br />about the many resources that are available to local businesses. <br />o <br />Enrich the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce’s website’s business <br />resources section and clearly link to this section from the homepage. <br />o <br />Expand the Chamber website’s downloadable “Basic Requirements <br />for Starting Your Business” guide into an extensive Business <br />Resource Guide (online and in hard copy), which lists business <br />support services available from local and regional organizations, to <br />distribute to area businesses. <br /> <br />Communicate the findings of Grow One back to other organizations within <br />Greater San Marcos. <br />o <br />Publicize the e-Synchronist survey results to highlight the progress of <br />the area’s retention and expansion efforts. <br />o <br />Alert appropriate organizations when a local business indicates the <br />need for assistance in public policy, workforce development, and <br />infrastructure. <br />o <br />Follow up to confirm that the organization responds to the business’ <br />need. <br /> <br />Action 2: Ensure Greater San Marcos’ business climate and regional <br />relationships support its economic development vision. <br />Make certain that Greater San Marcos’ public policies are conducive for target <br />industry growth. <br /> <br />Utilize incentives, regulations and other strategies to facilita– <br />and redevelopment – that supports Greater San Marcos’ target industries. <br />Final Strategy <br />September 2009 22 <br /> <br />
