INTRODUCTION <br />Greater San Marcos has reached a critical juncture in its history. Fueled by <br />population growth occurring along the I-35 corridor, San Marcos is now maturing <br />into a dynamic community with a strong presence in the Central Texas region. <br />Greater San Marcos must proactively reorient local and external perceptions to <br />embrace the reality that in the fastest-growing county in Texas the region is <br />poised to become a bustling hub of economic activity that connec <br />San Antonio metro areas. Its geographic position commands attention from state <br />and regional leaders. <br /> <br />To that end, the Partners for Progress initiated the creation of a Comprehensive <br />Economic Development Strategy to develop a consensus vision for Greater San Marcos <br />future growth and an action plan to achieve it. They engaged Market Street Services (a <br />community, workforce, and economic development consulting firm based in <br />Georgia) to facilitate the strategic planning process. <br /> <br />The Strategy effort represents a call to action for Greater San Marcos econo <br />community development leaders. Greater San Marcos has reached a point in which <br />its most prudent mandate is to proactively pursue economic opportunities and <br />aggressively address competitive challenges before they become l <br /> <br />This Implementation Plan provides an outline of the initial organizational, funding, <br />and timeline factors needed to jump start the implementation pro <br />Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy. For the Strategy to generate its <br />envisioned results, the initiative will require enhanced capacity and resource <br />allocation to a greater degree than the region has ever previously dedicate <br />economic and community development work. Future developments wil <br />viewed through the prism of the Strategys directives for progressive and long-term <br />change. <br /> <br />The Greater San Marcos Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy provides <br />regional stakeholders the opportunity to come together behind a <br />dedicated plan for future quality development. Successful implementation <br />the Greater San Marcos area to an entirely different level of co <br />programming, and prosperity. <br /> <br />Creation of the Strategy resulted from a tremendous amount of quantitative and <br />qualitative research, including a look at the regions demograph <br />trends, competitive dynamics, marketing programs, and target indMore than <br />one thousand area residents, employees, and community leaders participated in the <br />process through interviews, focus groups, and an online survey. Togethe <br />research led to the development of a far-reaching program to position the Greater San <br />Marcos as one of Central Texas most prominent and desirable regions.
