Lead <br />Year 1 Task Name <br />Agency <br />Get involved in educational programming that is supported by the Greater Austin Chamber of GSMED, <br />Commerce.SOAR <br />Participate in and support the Greater Austin Chamber’s 20,010 by 2010 initiative.GSMED <br />Push for the adoption of the Community Education Progress Task Force’s 2008 <br />recommendations for San Marcos, specifically those associated with career and college SOAR <br />readiness. <br />Action 5: Promote lifelong learning as the key to economic growth and prosperity. <br />Create and launch a marketing effort to raise community awareness of the value of education, GSMED, <br />designed to reach everyone from parents to kids already enrolled in school.ISDs <br />Encourage residents to get their GED (General Educational DeveloSOAR, <br />their English skills through ESOL (English for Speakers of OtherISDs <br />Communicate local schoolssuccess stories with the public through nonprofit <br />SOAR <br />organizations, faith-based groups, and service groups like Rotary Clubs. <br />Engage Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area in the process of <br />GSMED <br />community values related to work and responsibility. <br />Address critical skills gap issues, especially among the regionGSMED <br />Objective 2: Support local school districts in their continuing improvement efforts. <br />Action 1: Ensure that Greater San Marcos’ school districts have the capacity and programs they need to <br />effectively educate children and prepare them for their futures. <br />Support the efforts of the San Marcos Educational Partners/SOAR and Community Action,Inc.GSMED <br />Discuss possibilities for collaborative efforts between the organizations and Pre-K-12 schools SOAR, <br />to maximize resources. ISDs <br />Engage the business community in hands-on learning, after-school programs, and SMAC, <br />curricula development.ISDs <br />Expand SOARs outreach efforts to not only connect with first ge <br />SOAR <br />families but also offer general information sessions. <br />Create information packets that share ways parents can get involved with their children’s SOAR, <br />education.
