Year Two Action Plan <br />In Year Two of the program, Greater San Marcos Economic Developm <br />fully staffed and funding should be in place for the remaining f <br />campaign. <br />Many strategic activities initiated in Year One will be continued in Year Two after a <br />review is conducted of first year implementation successes and challenges. These are <br />boldedin the Year One calendar. <br />Note: Bolded items are ongoing actions, meaning that the initiative is to begin in that <br />year and continue throughout the end of the five-year campaign. <br />Year 2 (2011) Table <br />Lead <br />Year 2 Task Name <br />Agency <br />Goal I: Workforce Excellence <br />Objective 1: Create a seamless talent pipeline to provide learning opportunities for all residents and to <br />supply a highly skilled workforce for its growing business community. <br />Action 1: Establish a complete Austin Community College (ACC) district campus in Greater San Marcos. <br />As the ACC district campus is being developed, ensure that curricula align with the GSMED, <br />workforce skills needed by Greater San Marcos’ target industries. ACC <br />Action 2: Expand the utilization of Gary Job Corps as a local workforce development tool by the Greater <br />San Marcos community. <br />Increase opportunities for career training through Gary Job Corps related to high-demand <br />GJC <br />occupations in target industry sectors. <br />Expand internship opportunities within Greater San Marcos.CHMBRs <br />Increase collaboration between Gary Job Corps and the Research and Commercialization <br />GJC, <br />Center at TXSTto link new start-ups to affordable workforce and incubator space, and <br />TXST <br />provide direction for Greenindustry job training. <br />Action 3: Coordinate fragmented workforce development resources to make Greater San Marcos a <br />competitive place for business. <br />Establish a forum in which Greater San Marcos workforce providers can come together to <br />GSMED <br />discuss current programs and innovative practices <br />Action 4: Seamlessly transition high school students into training, college, and job opportunities in Greater <br />San Marcos. <br />Support the implementation of a Career Academy model in high schools based on target SOAR, <br />industries. ISDs <br />Adopt internship programs for high school juniors and seniors in each target ISDs, <br />business sector. CHMBRs <br />Establish a pipeline between Caldwell County school districts and Gary Job Corps similar to <br />ISDs,GJC <br />San Marcos CISD that allows students to be trained at Gary Job Corps. <br />Work with Gary Job Corps to promote the training center to Greater San Marcos high <br />ISDs, GJC <br />schools and further abate high school dropouts. <br />Implementation Plan 23 <br />September 2009 <br /> <br />
