--

187

MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, JULY 23, 1979

Present:

Mayor

John A. Hansen

Council Members

Ted Breihan
Robert L. Cavazos
Bob Hyatt
~erry R. James

L_

TO:

FROM:

SUBJECT:

DATE:

~ vi San)1arcos

186

OFFICE MEMORANDUM

John Hansen, Honorable Mayor
Members of the City Council

Ray V. Kotowski, Acting City Manager

Paid Sick Time

July 2, 1979

RE:

CSM-l00

I have reviewed the present sick leave policy and have
discussed it with various department heads. The following
suggestions are based on these discussions. I am requesting
the following changes be adopted by City Council as part of
our sick leave policy and that our present policy be rewritten
to reflect these changes.

1. All sick leave accumulated up to this time (July 20, 1979),
at ninety (90) days maximum, be considered paid sick leave.
That is to say that if a person terminates employment, they
will be paid for this accured time.

2. All sick leave accured after July 20,1979 is not paid sick
time. That is to say that if an employee t~rminates
employment, they will not be paid for this accrued time,
This time will be called credited sick time as opposed to
paid sick time described in #1 above.

3. If an employee is forced to use sick time and has paid
sick time and credited sick time accrued, he will use his
credited sick time first. If his incapacitation extends
beyond the number of credited sick time he has accrued,
he will then draw against his accrued paid sick time.
When the employee returns to work, all future sick time
accrued will be credited sick time and not paid sick time.
Once paid sick time is used, it is gone forever.

4. There will be no limit on the number of sick days to be
accrued.

5. Any abuse of the sick leave guidelines may result in
punishment ranging from a reprimand to dismissal from
employment. ~~~

Ray V. Kotowski
Acting City Manager

cc: All Department Heads

RVK/pg
