Mr. Sierra suggested the Council wait <br />until an accurate forecast could be made on the total <br />cost of the project, as designed, to see if there would <br />be money left over from the appropriation which would <br />allow inclusion of the Bolton and adjacent property. <br />Mr. Breihan moved to table consideration of the request <br />until the next meeting and requested more engineering data. <br />Mr. Hansen seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. <br /> <br />Colonel Jack N. Stovall, Chairman of the San Marcos <br />Municipal Airport Commission, presented a report on a <br />study being conducted by consultants for the City of Austin <br />to determine desirable sites for location of a new commercial <br />carrier airport for the City of Austilin. Col. Stovall <br />reported that the San Marcos Municipal Airport was one of <br />the sites included in the study which would be completed in <br />six to eight months. <br /> <br />The Mayor read an ordinance having the following caption: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, ACCEPTING THE <br />BID OF LARRY N. VILLANUEVA,. JR.. AND":"".... T <br />GUADALUPE D. VILLANUEVA FOR THE PURCHASE <br />OF LOT 12, BLOCK 12 OF THE C. D. WALLACE <br />SUBDIVISION OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS <br />AND AUTHORI2ING THE MAYOR TO EXECUTE A <br />WARRANTY DEED TO SAID BIDDER ON BEHALF <br />OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, IN TRUST, <br />FOR ITSELF, THE STATE OF TEXAS, THE <br />COUNTY OF HAYS, AND THE SAN MARCOS <br />CONSOLIDATED INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT, <br />AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Mr. Hansen moved the ordinance be adopted on emergency. <br />Mr. Arredondo seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. <br /> <br />Mr. Cavazos introduced a discussion of the downtown area <br />parking problems as they relate to parking meters. <br />Mr. Cavazos explained that City Staff had prepared a study <br />on the feasibility of increasing parking meter fees and <br />designating certain metered spaces for long term (full day) <br />parking for merchants or their employees. Mr. Ross King, <br />Mr. Elwood Soechting and Mr. Dempsey Serur participated in <br />the discussion with Council. Mr. King reported that the <br />Downtown Merchants Association wished to support a proposal <br />to replace meters taken from the Courthouse area of the <br />Square and reinstitute enforcement of meteredl1parking in <br />that area by the City. Mr. King also informed the Council <br />that the merchants were attempting to acquire off street <br />parking facilities for persons working in the central business <br />district. Both Mr. Serur ~nd Mr. Soechting encouraged the <br />Council to leave meter fees at the current rate.
