Mr. James <br />seconded the motion. On roll call, the following vote was recorded: <br /> <br />A.YE: <br />NAY: <br />ABSTAIN: <br /> <br />Craddock, Hansen, James, Sutton, Arredondo, Breihan <br />None <br />Cavazos. <br /> <br />The ~~yor opened a Public Hearing to consider a request for a change in the I <br />zoning of part of Lot 8, Block 22 of the Original Town of San Marcos, located <br />at 301 E. Hutchison, from "c" to "C-2". Present to request the change were <br />Mr. & Mrs. George Childress, applicants. Mr. Childress stated that a portion <br />of the present structure would be removed so that adequate parking could be <br />provided. Mr. L.O. Backus, an owner of property within 200 feet of the property <br />in question stated that he was opposed to the rezoning mainly because he felt <br />the 12 spaces required by ordinance were insufficient. Jo Ann Childress, also <br />anpoYpertgf property within 200 feet, objected because of insufficient parking <br />and increased traffic the business would bring. Ruben Meeks, representing the <br />owners of Nelson Center objected on the basis of insufficient parking and also <br />pointed out the property was within Fire Zone #1. Mr. Meeks said the City had <br />earlier required the demolition of wooden structures occupying what is now <br />Nelson Center and that the structure in question should have been condemned at <br />the same time. Amos Murray, a property owner within 200 feet objected on the <br />basis of insufficient parking and also stated his opposition to alcoholic beverages <br />on premises. Elmer Satterwhite objected on the basis of insufficient parking. <br />Don Wilsford supported the change in zoning, stating that the building was not <br />now an aaset to the City, that it would be when renovated, and that additional <br />parking would be provided. Councilman Breihan stated that he was going to vote <br />against the ordinance because he could not approve a "C-2" zoning change under <br />the pr'~sent zoning ordinance. Fburgp~tit~onseof objection were presented. They <br />are attached and made a part of these minutes. The Mayor closed the hearing and <br />read an ordinance having the following caption: <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, I <br />AHENDING SECTION 3 OF THAT ORDINANCE WHICH REGULATES AND RESTRICTS <br />. THE LOCATION AND USE OF BUILDINGS, STRUCTURES AND LAND, DATED MAY <br />23, 1966 (VOL. 32) BY CHANGING THE ZONING OF PART OF LOT 8, BLOCK 22 <br />OF' THE ORIGINAL TOWN OF SAN MARCOS, LOCATED AT 301 E. HUTCHISON, FROM <br />"c" (COMMERCIAL) TO "C-2" (COMMERCIAL). <br /> <br />Mr. Breihan moved the Ordinance not be approved. Mr. Sutton seconded the motion. <br />On roll call, the following vote was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: Sutton, Breihan, Craddock <br />NAY: Hansen, James, Arredondo, Cavazos. <br /> <br />The Mayor declared the motion failed. Mr. Hansen moved the Ordinance be approved <br />(on first reading. Mr. Cavazos seconded the motion. On roll call, the following vote <br />was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: James, Arredondo, Cavazos, Hansen <br />NAY: Sutton, Breihan, Craddock. <br /> <br />The Mayor read the caption of an Ordinance as follows: <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, <br />AMENDING SECTION 3 OF THAT ORDINANCE WHICH REGULATES AND RESTRICTS <br />THE LOCATION AND USE OF BUILDINGS, STRUCTURES AND LAND, DATED MAY <br />23,1966 (VOL. 32) BY CHANGIGN THE ZONING OF 2.74 ACRES IN THE J.M. <br />VERI\MENDI LEAGUE NUMBER TWO, LOCATED AT 1233 LH. 35 NORTH, FROM "c" <br />(COMMERCIAL) TO "C-2" (COMMERCIAL). <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Mr. Hansen moved the Ordinance be approved on second reading. Mr. James seconded <br />the motion, which passed unanimously. <br />
