Box 725 San Marcos, Texas 78666 Dear Mr. Baugh: SUBJECT: City of San Marcos 2nd Year.Community Development Projects Sunset Acres Orainage Extension F & C File: 532-02-41 We have completed our review of all of the bid documents submitted to the City on or before 2:00 p.m., February 7, 1977. The two low bidders were Joe McDaniel (1st) and Yantis Corporation (2nd). A copy of the bid results is attached for your convenience. We have also completed our investigative review of the contractors submitting the two lowest bids. Copies of our investigative review sheets are also attached for your convenience. Based upon our investigation, we recommend that the City award a con- tract to Joe McDaniel. The contract amount should be $464,380.00 if Reinforced Concrete Pipe is desired, or $464,338.00 if asphalt-coated Corrugated Metal Pipe is desired. Since both materials are acceptable from an engineering standpoint, the selection of the construction materi alto be util i zed, and the corresponding amount of contract away'd, will be left to the discretion of the City. We would like to advise you of one additional matter. Part of the Sun- set Acres project ca 11 s for 379 L. F. of pi pe to be i nsta 11 ed by jacki ng, tunneling, or boring. Joe McDaniel has advised us that he can install the concrete pipe in the tunnels for less than' he can install the metal pipe. Therefore, if metal pipe is selected for use, then Joe Mc Daniel will request that he be allowed to install concrete pipe in the tunnels, in lieu of metal pipe. This practice would also be perfectly acceptable from an engineering standpoint. Joe McDaniel has advised us that he will install the metal pipe/concrete pipe. tunnel combination for a price
