PHONE 392-3324
April 18, 1978

I

Mayor Robert L. Cavazos
City of San Marcos
30 E. Hopkins Street
San Marcos, Texas 78666

Dear Mayor Cavazos:

The purpose of this letter is to advise you of the critical need
that our Emergency Medical Services has for a new ambulance. I
will attempt to provide you with some historical data as well as
current information concerning the Emergency Medical Services in
order to assist you in the review of this matter.

I

The original contract between Hays Memorial Hospital and the City
of San Marcos became effective December I, 1968. Since that time,
the Emergency Medical Services has grown and improved substantially.
Originally as I understand it, the maintenance man, the admini-
strator, or whoever else was available often drove the ambulance.
Today, all of the personnel are certified emergency medical tech-
nicians plus we now have three who are certifled as paramedics
which is the highest level that an emergency medical service
employee can attain. In addition to the improvements in traini.ng,
there has been a noticeable increase in the activity of the depart-
ment. In 1972, the E.M.S. personnel responded to 944 calls. By
1977, the number of calls had increased to 1,484. This is an i.ncrease
of 57%.

presently, the department operates with three vehicles describE!d
below:
1. A 1974 SA-l38 Modulance on a 1974 Chevrolet C-30 chassis.
Present mileage - 60,000.

2. A 1973 Dodge Medicruiser (high top van).
Present mileage - 82,000. .

3. A 1972 Chevrolet Suburban (standard Suburban).
Present mileage - 79,000.

"A SEVENTH- DAY ADVENTIST INSTITUTION"

.
