<br />3S <br />regular meeting, may 16, 1977 <br /> <br />page two <br /> <br />The Mayor read the caption of a Resolution as follows: <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, <br />APPROVING A CONTRACT FOR BUS STOP BENCHES BETWEEN THE CITY OF SAN <br />MARCOS AND MR. JULIUS SADOWSKY, JR., DOING BUSINESS UNDER THE FIRM <br />NAME "BUS STOP ADS", AND AUTHORIZmG THE MAYOR OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br />OF SAN MARCOS TO EXECUTE SAID CONTRACT ON BEHALF OF THE CITY. <br /> <br />Dr. Craddock moved the Resolution be adopted. Mr. James seconded the motion. <br />Mr. Sadowsky came before the Council with a presentation on his proposal. He <br />showed the Council proposed designs for the benches 'and said that he would like <br />to request a fifteen year franchise, similar to that approved for the cable tv <br />company. The City AttOrney suggested the Council consider several points before <br />approving the contract: (1) There is presently no existing franchise between the <br />City and the bus company; (2) The continuation of the bus service and the present <br />location of bus stops is not guaranteed; (3) the bus' service is not provided for <br />the benefit of the general public; and (4) There may be other advertising businesses <br />interested in providing such a service should the Council wish to place the franchise <br />out for bids. Mr. Evans further stated that he felt the Council needed an agreement <br />with Southwest Texas State University regarding the shuttle bus system. Mr. Breihan <br />stated his primary concern as that benches be kept neat and not interfere with traffic. <br />Mr. Sadowsky assured the Council he would maintain the area where the benches were <br />placed in a neat and attractive manner. Mr. Arredondo moved the Resolution be tabled <br />until the City Attorney could draw up proper specifications for a contract. Dr. Craddock <br />seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The Mayor read an Ordinance having the following. caption: <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, CHANGING THE NAME OF LUCIO <br />STREET TO C.M. ALLEN PARKWAY AND DIRECTING THE CITY' MANAGER TO MAKE THE <br />APPROPRIATE CHANGES ON CITY RECORDS. <br /> <br />Mr. Sutton moved the Ordinance not be adopted. Mr. Cavazos seconded the motion. <br />The City Manager explained the staff proposed the Ordinance so that the name of <br />the street would be consistent. The Mayor reminded the Council that~Ludio Street <br />had been named for a decorated war veteran. Mr. Sutton saifqe was willing to I <br />leave the name of the street as it was unless the people who lived there wanted it <br />changed. Mr. Cavazos pomnted out other streets inconsistently named. Mr. Arredondo <br />moved the Ordinance be tabled until the Council Gould set a policy for naming streets. <br />Mr. Breihan seconded the motion. Mr. Breihan suggested the Council consider changing <br />the name of the street and naming the park currently known as the Gilcrease property <br />Lucio Park. On roll call, the motion to table the ordinance was defeated by the (). <br />following vote: );;p,. ..... + '::. . " <br /> <br />AYE: Arredondo, Hansen, Breihan <br />NAY: James, Sutton, Cavazos, Craddock. <br /> <br />The motion to not approve the Ordinance passed with the following vote: <br /> <br />AYE: Sutton, Breihan, Cavazos, Arredondo <br />NAY: Hansen, James, Craddock. <br /> <br />The Mayor read the caption of an Ordinance as follows: <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, AMENDIN <br />SECTION 3 OF THAT ORDINANCE WHICH REGULATES AND RESTRICTS THE LOCATION AND <br />USE OF' BUILDINGS, STRUCTURES AND LAND, DATED MAY 23, 1966 (VOL. 32) BY <br />CHANGING THE ZONING OF LOT 9, BLOCK 3 OF THE LINDSEY AND HARVEY ADDITION, <br />LOCATED AT 217 MOORE STREET, FROM "D" (MuLTIFAMILY) TO "c" (COMMERCIAL). <br /> <br />Mr. Breihan moved the Ordinance be approved on second reading. Mr. Hansen seconded I <br />the motion, which passed unanimously. <br /> <br />The Mayor read the caption of an Ordinance as follows': <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, AMENDING <br />SECTION TWO OF THAT ORDINANCE, WHICH PROVIDES FOR A JOB CLASSIFICATION AND <br />SALARY SCHEDULE FOR THE PUBLIC SAFETY DIVISION OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS. <br /> <br />Mr. Hansen moved the Ordinance be adopted on third and final reading. Mr. James <br />seconded the motion. On roll call, the following vote was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: Breihan, Craddock, Arredondo, Hansen, James <br />NAY: Sutton, Cavazos. <br />
