<br />regular meeting, january 22, 1973 <br /> <br />page three <br /> <br />65 <br /> <br />Mr. Gerald Klossner came before the Council with a proposed <br />ordinance repeal ing the prohibition of the sale and consumption <br />of alcohol ic beverages in pool and bil I iard halls and <br />extending the hours of operation at such establ ishments. The <br />ordinance was referred to the City Manager for study prior to <br />its placement on the February 12 Agenda. <br /> <br />Mr. Etheredge moved that Mrs. Frances Emery be appointed to the <br />Senior Citizens Advisory Board. Mr. Yarbrough seconded the <br />motion which passed unanimously. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Mr. Etheredge moved that Mike Rhea be reappointed and Mrs. Rose <br />Brooks, Mr. George B. Taack, jr. and Mr. Joe Morin be appointed <br />to the Parks and Recreation Board. Mr. Cunningh~m seconded the <br />motion which passed unanimously. <br /> <br />Mayor Flores reported that the Council had held an Executive <br />Session January 18 to discuss possible I itigation, and that <br />no action had been taken. <br /> <br />The Mayor read a petition request that improvements be made to <br />Broadway Street. (see attached) <br /> <br />Councilman Cunningham requested that the City Manager check to see <br />what powers the City might have in establ ishing aboard to resolve <br />disputes between renters and landlords. <br /> <br />Councilman Yarbrough requested information be compiled on more <br />feasible parking requirements for apartments and commercial <br />businesses. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Councilman Yarbrough reported that the City Council and County <br />Commissioners had met to discuss cooperative plans between the two <br />agencies; and that the County had expressed a desire to assist <br />the City in paving Thorp ~ane. An agreement was also made to <br />increase the County's share of fire protection outside the City <br />Limits from $1800 to $7200 annually. <br /> <br />The Mayor appointed the Land Committee, composed of Councilmen <br />Etheredge and King, to meet with the Retail Merchants Association <br />and the County Commissioners to discuss the problem of insufficient <br />parking for County Courthouse employees. <br /> <br />Mrs. James L. Moore came before the Council to request that some <br />solution be found to the drainage problem on Fredericksburg Street. <br /> <br />Mr. Yarbrough suggested that the Council send a telegram expressing <br />condolences to the Johnson family. <br /> <br />At 8:30 p.m. Mr. Yarbrough moved that the Council recess to <br />reconvene in regular session on January 23 at 5:30 p.m. to <br />consider a right-of-way exchange on the Sessom Drive project. <br />Mr. Etheredge seconded the motion which passed unanimously. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />/ <br />/~~P ft#~-/ <br />VI Luciano H.
