/&1

special meeting, august 21, 1972

page two

Upon enquiry from Councilman Yarbrough, the City Manager stated
there were four remaining parcels of land to be acquired for
completion of right-of-way requirements for Sessom Drive. It was
expected that acquisition would be by condemnation proceedings.
Mr. Gresham requested Council. permission to make a firm agreement
with John Davidson of Sawtelle, Goode, Davidson and leighton,
Attorneys, to handle condemnation suits. The Council gave common
consent for the City Manager to arrange an agreement for Mr. David-
son's services.

Mr. Gresham said the Mayor had received a letter from the Texas II
Highway Department in regard to the new Beautification Act.
This Act, passed by the Texas legislature, June 29, 1972,auth-
orizes the Highway Department to provide for the control and
regulation of outdoor advertising, junkyards and "autbmobile
graveyards". Cities are being given the opportunity to collect
a $5.00 fee for permits to place billboards for advertising.
By common consent, the Council declined the offer.

The City Manager presented the new site plan for the Police and
Courts Building, as prepared by the architects, Barnes, landes,
Goodman and Youngblood. Mr. Gresham asked the Mayor to call a
special meeting, Tuesday, August 29, for Council approval of the
final plans and specifications of the Police and Courts Building.

Councilman DeLa Rosa called attention to the great increase in
bicycle traffic in San Marcos, and asked what safety regulations
the City required. The City Secretary stated there were provis-
ions for regulation of bicycle use. Mr. DeLa Rosa suggested
that perhaps, if the City did have proper ordinances,.there
should b~ stricter enforcement.

/)
'/ .-- (~
~ ~-; 62/ ~
Mayor , / /)___,\ /
A~ ~p~_ ~.~,y~ L~..
