Reed <br /> <br />Absent: <br /> <br />Councilmen: <br /> <br />Frank Contreras, jr. <br />Herbert A.Yarbrough, jr. <br /> <br />Visitors: <br /> <br />John Henry, Walter Buckner, Jerri Martin, <br />Bo Barber, Harold Robbins, Leo Poore, <br />Virgil Teter, Bruce Jenkins, Harris M.Koch <br /> <br />The Mayor called the meeting to order at 1:30 p.m. <br /> <br />The Mayor introduced a Resolution. read it aloud, and moved <br />its approval. A copy is attachediasa part of the Minutes. <br />Councilman Zavesky seconded the motion. Councilwoman Craddock <br />said she could not approve the Resolution unless the section <br />referring to "males" being the only persons who can cook chili <br />properly,be omitted. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />During loud cries of "Question! Question'" from the male <br />members of the Council, Dr. Craddock continued to protest <br />the exclusion of women from the Chilympiad to be held at <br />Aquarena , September 18 & 19. She said if it were not for <br />her concern for Don Russell, gpevely ill in an Austin Hospital, <br />she would abandon the meeting to show her indignation. <br /> <br />The Secretary being instructed to call the roll in spite of <br />the hubbub, the following vote was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: Flores, Smith, King, Zavesky <br />NAY; Craddock <br /> <br />The Mayor declared the Resolution Passed and Approved, <br />signed it, and instructed the City Secretary to attest <br />his signature. <br /> <br />Mrs. Worrell said it would be against her principles to <br />attest such a Resolution. The Mayor deplored such a show of <br />insubordination and called for the Deputy City Secretary. <br />As George Reed came forward, the Mayor drew numerous, heavy <br />black lines through Dorothy Worrell's name. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The Resolution being duly signed and sealed, the Mayor called <br />Walter Buckner, President of the Chili Appreciation Society <br />International, to come forward and receive it. <br /> <br />The Council adjourned at 1560 p.m. <br />
