.?~ I THE CHARTER REVIEW COMMISSION 1970 The Charter Review Commission appointed by the City Council of San Marcos, Texas on July 13, 1970 in their Regular meeting presents the following report: Several scheduled meetings were held in the Public Library. The last meeting waS held on November 5, 1970 in the City Hall with four members of the City Council in attendance. The following areas or items have been discussed in the various meetings: l. To have the Mayor elected by the people. 2. To grant the Mayor "Veto Power". 3. Annexed areas to our City and the and the services extended according to our present Charter. 4. The Municipal Judge's position. The question as to how the replacement should be selected - if other than the Mayor to perform these duties, as it is now in the Charter. I 5. To have the City Council members receive some sort of salary or payment for their services in attending meetings. 5. To allow the City Council members the privileges of asking questions of City employees for information and to not be in the position that it is not their place to do so. 7. To consider the previous action of prior Review Committees for the City Charter, i.e., 1958 Committee. The following is the Commission's report resulting from the action outlined above: 1. To evaluate and present to the citizens a plan for replacing and/or fulfilling the position of Municipal Judge other than the procedure that is now in the City Charter. . 2. To be aware of the Community's needs in the areas previously listed, but that no action be taken to amend the Charter otherwise. I 3. We therefore request that this report stand as evidence that the Charter Review Commission had fulfilled all responsibilities required of it and that the Commission be dissolved. ~ ~ t~f t: '-11-1/ 1 Jerry L.
