<br />regular recessed meeting, may 5, 1971 <br /> <br />page two <br /> <br />The City Secretary asked the Council to increase the <br />hourly fee paid to Election Judges and Clerks. The <br />matter was discussed. Mr. King moved that the Presiding <br />Judges and Clerks be paid $2.00 an hour, with the Presid- <br />ing Judges being .paid an extra fee of $5.00 for delivery of <br />the returns, ballot boxes and stub boxes to City Hall, and <br />that the increase be effective for the May 4, 1971 election. <br />Mrs. Emery seconded the motion and on roll call, the follow- <br />ing vote was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: <br />NAY: <br />ABSTAIN: <br /> <br />De la Rosa, Emery, Etheredge, King, Smith,Yarbrough <br />Nohe <br />Flores <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The Mayor declared the moti.on carried. <br /> <br />The Mayor forwarded an invitation to .Council Members for a <br />Cinco de Mayo Celebration received from <br />Sociedad Cuauhtemoc. <br /> <br />George Reed, Tax Assessor-Collector, appeared before the <br />Council to request that the Board of Equalization forcc1971 <br />be appointed. Mr. Reed agreed to contact those who served <br />in 1970 to see if they would serve again, and Council Members <br />agreed to propose other. names for consideration, May 10. <br /> <br />Acting City Manager Leddick distributed information on the <br />Code Enforcement Program. The bibder included aResolu~ion <br />to be considered at the May 10 meeting. <br /> <br />Mr. Leddicls eXplained a new program being initiated in July <br />under the Dep!ilrtment of Housing and Urban Development called <br />"The Legacy of Parks". He suggested that a "letter lilf intent" <br />be sent to HUD in regard to a possible grant for a swimming <br />pool. Mrs. Emery moved that the Mayor be.authorized to sign <br />a Letter of Intent to HUD, as recommended.. by Mr. Leddick. <br />Mr. Flores $e.conded the motion, which pas$edunanimously. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Mr. Leddick recommended to the Council that Texas Soaring <br />Cen.ter, I nc. be awar.ded the bid for the al'lricul turallease <br />at the Municipal Airport. Circumstances of the bid-letting <br />were discussed. Mr. Flores moved that the City accept the <br />bid submitted by Texas Soaring Center~ Inc. for a five~ye~r <br />lease on the agricultural land at the Airport. Mr. Dela Rosa <br />seconded the m.otion and on roll call, the following vote was <br />recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: De La Rosa, Emery, Etheredge, Flores.
