<br />Iq <br /> <br />regular meeting, september 22, 1969 <br /> <br />page two <br /> <br />Councilman Smith, chairman of a committee to study the <br />question of self-service gasoline stations in San Marcos, <br />reported to the Council that State HB 1070, which became <br />effective September 1, 1969, would regulate self-service <br />stations, removing the necessity of passing a local ordi- <br />nance. <br /> <br />The Mayor reminded the Council that the terms of two <br />Housing Authority Board members had expired in August. <br />He said he had contacted the incumbents, and both were <br />willing to continue serving, if appointed by theCouncil. <br />Mr. Flores moved that Mr. Joe Rodriguez and Mr. Ruben Ruiz <br />be reappointed to the Housing Authority Board for two-year <br />terms. Dr. Craddock seconded the motion, which passed <br />,unanimously. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The Mayor read aloud a letter from the Planning & Zoning <br />Commission, see attached. Councilman Zavesky moved ap- <br />proval of the request of Harvey Holstrom for permission <br />to re-subdivide Farm Lots 15 & 16 into three lots. <br />Councilman Smith seconded the motion, which passed unani- <br />mously. <br />Mr. Dannelley moved that the Council approve rezoning of <br />3.5 acr.es at the corner of Holland and LJB Drive" from <br />R-I to P-2, as requested by the Church of Christ. <br />Mr. Contreras seconded the motion/which passed 'una.nimously. <br /> <br />The Mayor, introduced and read aloud a Res.olution.on the <br />death of Fire Chief Albert Tombaugh. The Resolution is <br />made a part of the Minutes . Dr. Craddock moved approval <br />of the' Resoluti on. Mr; Smith seconde,d the motion, which <br />passed unanimously. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Dr. Craddock submitted her resignation as a member of the <br />Community Action Steering Committee. She explained that <br />the meeting night conflicts with her teaching schedule at <br />SWTSU. The Mayor su9gested that, the Council consider <br />the matter, and be prepared to fill the vacancy at the <br />October meeting. <br /> <br />Mr. Contreras brought before the Council the need for side- <br />walks at the Owen Goodnight Junior High School. He express- <br />ed concern for the safety of students who walk to school on <br />the access roads. The City Manager said the Highway Depart- <br />ment had already been approached about furnishing sidewalks, <br />and had refused. Dr. Craddock asked if the San Marcos Inde- <br />pendent School.District would participate. Mr. Bean was <br />requ~sted, by common cons,ent of ,the. Council. to contact Supt. <br />Shannon Doss to see if something could be. worked out. <br /> <br />Mr. Smith said he had read in the SAN MARCOS RECORD that the <br />Chamber of Commerce, had joined other ~roups in asking the <br />Hays County Commissioners Court to work toward getting warn- <br />ing lights installed at the railroad crossing ,on Redwood Road, <br />which cuts across from Hunter to IH 35. Traffic has increased <br />on this road with the opening of Owen Goodnight Junior High, <br />and the safety device is badly needed, Mr. Smith stated. He <br />suggested the Council indicate its approval of the project by <br />sendi nga letter to the County Commissio.ners Court. It was <br />brought out that the project was outside the City's jurisdict- <br />ion. Common consent was given. to ,a letter saying "the City is <br />in sYl11pathy wi,ththe request that warning lights be installed <br /> <br />I <br />
