<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />REGULAR MEETING NOVEMBER 2, 1955 <br /> <br />11f5 <br /> <br />on this, the 2nd day of November, 1955, at 2:00 p.m., the city <br />Council of the City of san Marcos,Texas, met in a regular meeting at <br />the City Hall with the following members present and participating: <br /> <br />Frank E. Dietterich, Mayor <br />Frank D. Hill, Jr., Alderman <br />S. R. Beecroft, Alderman <br />Harold G. Smith, Alderman <br />Coy De Viney, Alderman <br /> <br />Absent: calvin M. Allen, Alderman <br /> <br />A quorum being present, Mayor Dietterich called the meeting to <br />order,and the following transpired: <br /> <br />The Iupre8 Oil Company has requested permission to erect two 4,000 <br />gallon gasoline storage tanks near their station on HWY. 81. Mr. DuPree <br />has stated that these tanks will be elevated, and 60 ft. from the higp- <br />way right-of-way, 90 ft. from any traveled surface, and 40 ft. from any <br />building. Mr. nuPree received a letter from the Railroad Commission of <br />Texas stating that it does not have jurisdiction over gasoline or gasoline <br />tanks but only over liquified petroleum gases. After a discussion, <br />Alderman Smith made a motion that the City Council approve the installa- <br />tion of these two elevated tanks. Alderman Beecroft seconded the motion. <br />A vote was taken which resulted unanimously in favor of the motion. <br /> <br />The Council then discussed hospitalization insurance for City <br />Employees. Mr. Barbee reported that 53 out of 83 employees have stated <br />that they would want hospitalization insurance. The council appointed <br />Alderman Smith to study the situation and determine the type of insurance <br />would be most desirable. <br /> <br />AN ORDIN.I\.NCE CHANGING THE NAME OF "OLD MARTINDALE ROAD" LYING <br />WITHIN THE CITY OF SAN ~,l~.RCOS TO "RIVERSIDE DRIVE", was presented to <br />the Council for adoption. After a study of this ordinance, Alderman <br />Beecroft made a motion that the above ordinance be adopted. Alderman <br />Smith seconded the motion. A vote was taken which resulted unanimously <br />in favor of the motion. The ordinance follows these minutes and is a <br />part hereof. <br /> <br />Mr. Barbee reported that last week a butane truck had caught fire <br />while refueling a large truck which was operated on butane. He stated <br />that two firemen had endangered their lives in putting out the fire, and <br />that it could have been much more serious. The truck was parked on the <br />side of ''Jalling's creamery when the fire started. After a discussion <br />on this matter, the Council gave instructions that Ernest Morgan, City <br />Attorney, draw an ordinance amending the present one regulating the <br />transDortation of gasoline and butane through the City of san Marcos <br />in any way that may be necessary to prevent similiar occurrances. <br /> <br />Mr. Barbee stated that Gene scrutchin has requested that the alley <br />be closed which runs along the side of his property between Belvin St. <br />and Burleson st. He has stated that the alley is no longer used, as it <br />is a dead end. After a discussion, the Council agreed to close the <br />alley, provided that Mr. scrutchin agrees to do nothing to prevent the <br />drainage of water down the alley. Mayor Dietterich stated that, if <br />Mr. Bcrutrhin agrees to this, the city will agree to close the alley. <br /> <br />Drawings showing the locations of the fire stations on the lots <br />were studied by the Council. After a discussion, they were approved. <br /> <br />Mr. Barbee stated that James Burwell, City sanitarian, has found <br />that several restaurants and cafes in san Marcos do not have proper <br />restrooms according to the ordinance. Mr. Burwell has requested the <br />Council's advice as to whether or not he should fully enforce the section <br />of the ordinance pertaining to restroom facilities. The Council was of <br />the opinion that there may be from time to time some cases where an <br />exception should be may and that these decisions should be left to <br />1~. Burwell's descretion. <br /> <br />Alderman De viney stated that the property owners near the Wool <br />Mill have been complaining about the water standing in ditches in front <br />of their homes. He stated that it might help to solve the problem if <br />these ditches were filled with dirt. The Council agreed that the City <br />would fill these ditChes, provided thqt the property owners would sign <br />a petition requesting same and releasing the City from any liability. <br />
