<br />'73 <br />, , <br /> <br />REGULAR MEETING JULY II, 1956 <br /> <br />On this, the 11th day of July, 1956, at 2:00 p. m. the City Council of the <br />City of San Marcos, Texas, met in a regular meeting at the City Hall in San <br />Marcos with the following members present and participating: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Frank E. Dietterich, Mayor <br />Calvin M. Allen, Alderman <br />B. D. Hillburn, Alderman <br />S. R. Beecroft, Alderman <br />Herman Korff, Alderman <br />W. M. Davis, Alderman <br /> <br />Others present were: <br /> <br />Jack Perkins, Mrs. Grace Williams, Frank Hill, Caesar Damon, Walter Buckner, <br />Walter Feltner, Mrs. Nell Wood, Mrs. Myrtis Dominy, Terry Jacks, John Stokes, <br />Bruce Conway, Cullen Crews, Charles Zunker, J. B. Roberts; Coy De Viney, <br />Tom Oliver, W. H. Whittenberg, Zeb Fitzgerald, Judge Decker, Herbert Holcombe, <br />W. H. Bullard, W. G. Barbee, and Fredericka Hopkins. <br /> <br />A quorum being present, the meeting was called to order by Mayor Frank E. <br />Dietterich and the following transpired: <br /> <br />First business to come before the meeting was a presentation by Mrs. Nell <br />Wood of conditions to be met for USDA commodities for welfare distribution. <br />After hearing these conditions Mr. Hillburn made a motion that Mr. Allen and <br />Mr. Korff meet Saturday morning July 14, 1956 at ten o'clock with the County <br />Commissioners Court to appoint a committee to go to Austin and meet with Mr. Wm. <br />M. Herndon, Director of Surplus Commodities, to get all details of Welfare <br />Distributions of USDA Commodities. Mr. Allen seconded the motion. A vote was <br />taken and the motion was carried. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Next on <br />tax season. <br />Equalization <br />seconded the <br /> <br />the agenda was the appointment of an Equalization Board for the 1956 <br />Mr. Hillburn made a motion to confirm the following as Board of <br />for 1956. C. C. Wade, W. M. Schofield, R. Dare Williams. Mr. Davis <br />motion. The motion was unanimously carried. <br /> <br />It was brought to the attention of the Council the re-appointment of three <br />persons to act as Commissioners of the Housting Authority for a term of two years. <br />Mr. Allen made the motion to re-appoint Jack Harper, Herbert ;cEs5:twadd, and Allen <br />4Qods as Commissioners of the Housing Authority for a term of two years beginning <br />8th day of August 1956 to 7th day of Augusi 1958. Mr. Davis seconded the motion. <br />A vote l>I,a's, taken "and the motion was unanimously carried. <br /> <br />Bids for radio equipment for the Fire Department were studied. General Electric <br />submitted their bid as low bidder by $9.00. But it was decided that since the <br />City already has Some of the Motorola type equipment and could also use the same <br />tubes it would be best to accept the Motorola bid for $1,386.06. <br /> <br />Next was a short discussion of difference of the present ordinance on sub- <br />divisions now in effect and the proposed ordinances now before the Council, <br />was given by Mr. Terry Jacks. <br /> <br />Mr. John Stokes came before the Council and said he thought passing of these <br />two proposed ordinances were good for all of San Marcos. He further stated that <br />the proposed ordinances would take the worry from the City Government and result in <br />subdivisions developed in a first class manner at no cost to the City. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Mr. Stokes then introduced the guest speaker, Mr. W. H. Bullard of Austin, <br />an Austin Mortgage loan banker, lawyer, and sub-divIder. Mr. Bullard stated that <br />these two ordinances were almost identical with the ones adopted in Austin in 1953, <br />which have proved to be very successful. <br /> <br />Mr. Terry Jacks then came before the Council representing the Nagel Supply & <br />Manufacturing Company of Houston, ~anufacturers of wooden coat hangers. The Nagel <br />Company has just purchased the Texas Ceramics property on Highway 81. He stated <br />that there are over $6,000.00 back taxes on this property due the three local <br />tax offices. This amount includes the penalties and interest. These taxes were <br />never rendered for the years 1952 through 1955. The assessed valuation, he said, <br />was put in at an inflated figure of $15,000.00. Mr. Jacks asked that the City <br />consider reducing the valuation on this piece of property for the years 1952, 1953, <br />1954, and 1955. Mr. Barbee then stated that Stoner Appraisal Co. had valued the <br />property at $13,460.00. After a short discussion Mr. Beecroft made a motion to <br />re-valuate the assessment for the years 1952, 1953, 1954, & 1955 to $7,500.00 <br />instead of the $15,000.00. The new owner would pay the penalty and interest on <br />
