<br />/5/ <br /> <br />'-u~ <br /> <br />SPECIAL MEETING OCTOBER 29, 1956 <br /> <br />On this, the 28th day of October 1956, at 2:30 P. M. the City Council of the <br />City of San Marcos, Texas, met in a special meeting at the City Hall in San Marcos, <br />wi.th the following members present and participating: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Calvin M. Allen, Acting Mayor <br />S. R. Beecroft, Ald~rman <br />B. D. Hillburn, Alderman <br />Herman Korff ,Alderman <br /> <br />Others present were: <br /> <br />W. G. Barbee and Fredericka Hopkins <br /> <br />A quorum being present, the meeting was called to order by Acting Mayor C. M. <br />Allen and the following transpired: <br /> <br />The Council convened and it was announced the special meeting had been called <br />to make a correction in a change in the pay of Jack Major, a city employee, which <br />change was made at the last meeting, and for other purposes. <br /> <br />After a short explanation and discussion, Mr. Hillburn made a motion that <br />(1) effective November 15th, Mr. J. P. Ellis, building inspector and fire marshal, <br />be relieved of all duties and removed from the city pay-roll; and (2) that Jack <br />Major effective November 1st have a salary of $325.00 a month, and the use of a <br />maintained and fueled pick-up truck (now assigned to the street department) and <br />will have the duties of building inspector and fire marshal . <br /> <br />Mr. Hillburn's motion was seconded by Mr. Beecroft and on being put to a <br />vote was adopted unanimously. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The matter of acquiring the property of John Cox, required for the expanded <br />Highway 81 Right-of-Way, then came up. The Council was reminded that Mr. Cox had <br />been offered a base average acreage price of $1,139.35 for the .343 of an acre re- <br />quired from his land. His letter to the City now stated he would not be able to <br />settle for this offered amount. It was decided to request Attorney Oliver to write <br />Mr. Cox to the effect that it would be necessary to file a condemnation suit for the <br />required tract, if the City's offer be not accepted. <br /> <br />The question df a possible interchange of duties among some city employees then <br />was discussed, it was suggested to Mr. Barbee to write the Cities of Taylor, Lampases, <br />Kerrville, and Mexia asking for details of any duty interchange as among firemen, <br />policemen, or despatchers. <br /> <br />There being no further business to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 3:00 P. M. <br /> <br />The foregoing and above minutes is a true and correct record of all matters <br />transpiring at the sp~cial meeting held on October 28, 1956. <br /> <br />.~.
