The motion was made
by Mr. Korff that Mr. Dees be given a $25.00 salary increase and waS seconded
by Mr. Davis. A vote was then taken which resulted unanimously in favor I
of the motion.

The Council discussed possibility of a central garage and shop for City
equipment near the center of town. No action was taken.

A report was then submitted that the balance in the Firemen's Relief and
Pension Fund is only $311.06 and the monthly requirement for the retired
firemen is $225.01. This fund is reimbursed monthly from small contributions
by the local firemen and it was the impression of Mr. Fuller that the state
was liable for a contribution to this fund. Mr. Allen suggested that Mr. Fuller
go to Austin and investigate this matter and submit a report of his findings
to the Council, and was agreed upon unanimously by the Council members.

Mr. Fuller also brought to the attention of the Council that the City
has no workmen's conpeosation lnsurance and felt it most necessary that they
obtain same. It was unanimously agteed by the Council that Mr. Fuller contact
various insurance firms in order to obtain several different price rates of
this type of workmen's compensation insurance and submit same to the Council
for discussion at a later meeting.

Mrs. Higgs had submitted a request that 1500 feet of 2" water pipe line
be installed at the cemetary which would serve more areas and give more pressure.
Mr. Hillburn made a motion that this request be carried out and was seconded
by Mr. Korff and upon taking the vote was passed unanimously.

Mr. Fuller brought before the Council the fact that due to Mr. Camp's
health he will not be able to continue to work on a full time basis and
suggested that the Council consider employing women Parkettes. He expressed
his opinion that it would be best to employ two women on a staggering shift
basis. Mr. Allen stated that he felt that Mr. Fuller should make the decision
as to who and how many to employ for this particular position which was un-
animously agreed upon. Mr. Fuller suggested at this time that an investiga-
tion into the possibility of a Mother Patrol at School zones should be con-
templated and stated that as soon as he could obtain all information regard-
ing this program he would submit a report to the Council.

I

Mr. D. J. McCarthy, local theatre operator, at this time appeared before
the Council requesting a franchise for a home TV program. He stated that
this program has been highly successful in other cities and that he would like
to obtain a franchise for a period of 25 years at a rate of 3% of the gross
receipts to be given to the City. Mr. Allen stated that he felt that a venture
of this kind should be thoroughly investigated and that same should be given
to Mr. Ernest Morgan, City Attorney, for investigation for legal purposes.
Upon completion of this investigation by Mr. Morgan, Mr. Fuller is to notify
Mr. McCarthy and his lawyer, Mr. Elbert R. Jaudt, to meet with the Council
for further discussion and approval.

Mr. Fuller then informed the Council that he had obtained chemicals,
Malarin and Malarin Dust, in the total amount of $120.00, which would be I
used with the fogging m8chine in an attempt to wipe out the diluge of
crickets which had grown to be a menace to the entire City, -especially the
business district. This spraying to be done from 9,00 o'clock to 12:00
o'clock P. M., and then have the Street Department to sweep the streets before
morning. Ten (10) garbage cans had also been purchased by the City in order
that business people could sweep the dead crickets together and put them in
these cans.

Mr. Allen then told the Council that he had spoken with Mr. Bob Lohman
and he stated that the airport definitely needed a runway extension, and being
that the land could be bought for a reasonable price at this time that he felt
that it would be wise to do so. Motion was then made by Mr. Korff that the
City purchase this land and was seconded by Steakley to purchase this property
from Mr. Edward PuIs and that Camp Gary should assume the maintenance for this
new extension.
