<br />On this, the 13th day of May, 1958, at 2:00 o'clock P. M., the
<br />Governing Body of the City of San Marcos, Texas, met in a regular session
<br />in their regular meeting place, Mayor C. M. Allen presiding.

<br />The minutes of the previous meetings were read and approved.
<br />
<br />The City Manager made a report on the paving which had been done
<br />around ,the Courthouse Square and on N. Austin Street.
<br />
<br />A letter from the General Services Administration was read to the
<br />Council regarding the "Old Library" site which had been offered on December 12,
<br />1957, as a possible site for the proposed post office building. The letter
<br />stated in part, "will not be required as a site. . . . . . . . . since
<br />another site for the new Post Office building has been recommended". The
<br />Council took note of the wording of the message and, feeling that the site
<br />offered by the City had many advantages as to location and physical features,
<br />and further that the site would require no outlay of funds from the $576,000.00
<br />appropriation, the Council, on motion made by Alderman Hillburn and seconded
<br />by Alderman Davis, unanimously directed the City Manager to forward a resolution
<br />to the:Real Estate Division of the General Services Administration requesting
<br />that they reconsider the Citys' offer and, further, that a copy of the resolu-
<br />tion be sent, with appropriate covering letter, to Senators Johnson and Yarborough,
<br />Congressman Thornberry and State Representative Max Smith.

<br />The Council considered a contract, which had been prepared, covering
<br />the se~vices of a delinquent tax attorney. On motion of Alderman Korff, seconded
<br />by Alderman Steakley, the City Manager was instructed to send the contract to
<br />Mr. Ross Terry, Littlefield Building, Austin, Texas, for his acceptance. Mr. Terry
<br />had appeared before the Council on April 15, 1958, and expressed a desire to
<br />undertake the collection of taxes now delinquent and owing the city.

<br />The City Manager reported to the Council that the firm of Freese,
<br />Nichols and Turner, Houston, Texas, had accepted the contract which had been
<br />forwarded them for engineering services in connection with improvements to
<br />the se~age lift station. Work on this project to be9in during the week of
<br />May 12th and the preliminary phase to be completed on or about July 18th.

<br />The City Yanager presented the cost figures for the installation of
<br />1,214 ft. of 6" waterline and two fire hydrants in the Cedar Plateau Addition
<br />(annexed to the City on December 31, 1957). It was shown that the materials
<br />cost was $2,869.64; equipment and supplies required for excavation and back-
<br />fill was $1,786.75; and, labor amounted to $1,218.60, for a total cost of
<br />$5,874,99. Based on a five year payout on the investment, it would require
<br />$1,175.00 per year in tax revenue (estimated on a gross valuation of $69,200.00).

<br />The Council was informed of the improvements which had been made by
<br />the Cuauhtemoc Society to their park area. The installation of four street
<br />lights around the area and two lights on Knox Street leading into the area
<br />and the graveling of the area was approved.
<br />
<br />After careful consideration of the bids submitted for the repairs
<br />to and ,painting of the Colored Community Center BUilding, the COuncil approved
<br />the low bidder for all work and directed the award be made to the Tuttle
<br />Lumber Company. Bids submitted as follows:
