<br />c, " <br />l~~ <br /> <br />o <br />c <br />c.... <br />i:';"J <br />e.:: <br /> <br />Alderman Korff introduced an ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE ~VYING <br />TAXES FOR THE USE AND SUPPORT OF THE MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT OF THE CITY OF SAN <br />MARCOS, TEXAS, TO PROVIDE A SINKING FUND FOR THE RETIREMEt-.'T OF THE BONDED <br />DEBT OF SAID CITY AND TO PROVIDE FOR PERMANENT IMPROVEMENTS" and moved its <br />adoption. The Ordinance was read in full and seconded by Alderman Davis. The <br />apes and nayes were as followss <br /> <br />Ayess Beecroft <br /> Davis <br /> Hillburn I <br /> Korff <br /> Tuttle <br />Nayes: None <br /> <br />Whereupon Mayor Allen declared the ordinance passed, approved, and adopted. <br /> <br />City Manager Fuller recommended that plans be prepared for the construc- <br />tion of a bridge over the San Marcos River at the east end of Hopkins Street <br />to permit connecting with east Hutchison Street through the Memorial Park area. <br />After some discussion of the need for this &ructure and its possible cost, <br />Alderman Korff made a motion, seconded by Alderman Tuttle, that City Manager <br />Fuller proceed with negotiations for the engineering of a bridge OVer the San <br />Marcos River at the end of Hopkins Street. The motion was passed by a unani- <br />mous vote of the Council. <br /> <br />The Council next considered the reactivation of the City of San Marcos <br />Planning Commission. Alderman Hillburn suggested that the Council consider <br />the matter and submit at their next meeting names of perSons qualified to <br />serve on this Commission. <br /> <br />City Manager Fuller requested permission to apply to the State Health <br />Department for a planning grant. If approved by the5tate, this grant would <br />be the basis for the City of San Marcos to develop a Master Plan of programmed <br />capital expansion and improvements. The Council discussed the cost of develop- I <br />ing this Master Plan as well as its importance to the futUre growth of the <br />City. Alderman Hillburn made a motion, seconded by Alderman Beecroft, that <br />City Manager Fuller proceed with requesting a planning grant from the State <br />Health Department. This motion was passed by a unanimous vote of the Council. <br /> <br />The Crescendo Club had requested that the week of May 3 - 9 be observed <br />in San Marcos as National Music Week. Mayor Allen signed a Proclamation <br />designating May 3 - 9 as National Music Week in San Marcos. <br /> <br />The City of San Antonio h~s appealed the decision of the lower courts <br />regarding the diversion of water from the Canyon Reservoir far use by the <br />City of San Antonio in its municipal operation. The City of San Marcos had <br />been asked to intervene with other agencies in this suit. After some discussion <br />it was the common consent of the Council that the City of San Marcos intervene <br />in thi.s suit. <br /> <br />The Brown Schools have obtained the necessary signatures on a petition <br />to alter the City limits line to take in the ninety odd acres owned by the <br />Brown Schools which is outside the eity limits. This is the area on which <br />the new school buildings are to be constructed. Alderman Tuttle introduced <br />an ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE RECEIVING CERTAIN TERRITORY, AND THE <br />INHABITANTS THEREOF, ADJOINING THl:: CORPORATE LIMITS OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, <br />INTO OiAID CITY OF SAN MARCOS" and moved its adoption. Alderman Korff seconded <br />the motion, and the ayes and nayes were as followss <br /> <br />Ayes: BeeCroft <br />Davis <br />Hillburn <br />Korff <br />Tuttle <br />Nayesl None <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Whereupon the Mayor declared the ordinance passed, approved, and adopted. <br />
