E. YoungeI', Jr. and Ruben Ruiz as aldermen for the term
ending April 1993, or until a successor has qualified.

Ihe oath of office was administered to the Mayor by the
City Secretary and the MayoI' in turn administered the oath of office
to the newly elected aldermen, J. E. Younger, Jr. and Ruben Ruiz.

I

The Mayor expressed his personal appreciation, as well as
the Council's, for the excellent WOI'k which outgoing Aldermen
Beecroft and Tuttle had performed and also welcomed the new alder-
men. He gave a brief orientation of their duties as aldermen.

Alderman Sutton moved that Alderman B. D. Hillburn he
nominated as mayor pro-tern. The motion was seconded by Alderman
KOI'ff and passed without a dissenting vote. Whereupon Mayor Allen
declared Alderman Hillburn as Mayor Pro-Tempore.

Alderman Hillburn introduced an ordinance appointing City
officials and moved its adoption. The ordinance was read in full
by the Mayor. Alderman Korff seconded the motion of adoption and
upon roll call the ayes and nayes were:

AYES: Hillburn, Korff, Ruiz, Sutton and Younger

NA YES: None

Whereupon Mayor Allen declared the ordinance passed, approved and
adopted.

The Mayor explained that Mr. Walter Feltner had approached
him with a problem of not having been notified of an ad valorem
tax on a piece of property he had repossessed on West San Antonio
Street. After a discussion of the problem it was disclosed that
there was no way to determine if it had been an error on the part
of the City or not in having failed to notify Mr. Feltner, however,
the Council felt that the owner should receive the benefit of the
doubt. Alderman Sutton moved that the penalty be removed upon
payment, by the owner, of the tax and interest, Alderman Hillburn
seconded and the motion carried unanimously.

I

A request from one of the churches that City owned
equipment be used afteI' work hours in spreading dirt on church
propeI'ty was brought up for discussion. It was the opinion of the
Council that this practice would cause censure and the request was
denied.

The City Manager reported that he had been requested, by
the contractor building the Widelite Corporation building, to
extend the sanitary sewer line from Sherwood Street in a south-
westerly direction to the edge of the Widelite Corporation
property. The City Manager I'eported his estimate to be approxi-
mately $2,400.00 for the extension. Council approved the
extension provided the necessary easements can be obtained and the
entire cost is borne by Widelite.

The Council deferred appointment of a corporation court
recorder until the April 11th meeting, James Burwell to continue
acting in that capacity until a new appointment is made.

I
