<br />Mr. Ross Terry-s request for a renewal of his contract as Del1nquent <br />Tax Attorney with the City of San Marcos for a period of two years was read. <br />Alderman Ruiz moved that the Contract be extended for only one year. Alderman <br />Younger seconde~ a~ motion carried. <br /> <br />The need' of appointing an Equalization Board was mentioned, but <br />Council decided to postpone appointment of the Board until the next Council <br />meeting. <br /> <br />..- <br />::0 <br />~ <br />n <br />== <br /> <br />2D <br />1~1 <br /> <br />Alderman Stokes moved that a Recreational Director be appointed at a <br />salary of $900.00 to set up the recreational program to be presented at the <br />next meeting' add that all the other items suggested by the recreational <br />committee be defferred until that time. Alderman Swift seconded and motion <br />carried. ^ <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I' <br /> <br />Request of Mr. Ed Bell concerning River tours and Skin Diving <br />equiplllent rental in the City Park was discussed, and the Council decided to refer <br />the matter to the'recreational committee for their consider,tion and suggestions. <br /> <br />The Tax Assessor-Col1ector presented a list of certain items to be deleted <br />from the tax rolls' consisting of personal Property (automobiles belonging toppeople <br />residing outside city limits, service personnel and double,assessment) Valuation- <br />$28,580.00, Tax $571.60; Personal Prop~rty (furniture & fixtures of stores no.t <br />in business on January 1, 1961) Valuation-$4,200.00, T~x $84.00; led Property <br />(assessed in error) Valuation-$9,3OQ.OQ, Tax $186.00; and Real Property deductions <br />from prior years $95.12, for a total reduction in the Taxable Receivailes of <br />$936,72. After consideratitn, Alderman Ruiz made a motion that the taxes as <br />listed be removed from the Tax Rolls for the Years indicated. The Motion was seconded <br />by Alderman Younger and the Motion carriled with all members voting Aye. <br /> <br />A map of the p~opos~d Thunderbird Addition to the city of-San ~rcos <br />was shown t? the Council. Alderman Stokes said that he felt that Attorney <br />Walker as City Attorney had a conflict of interest in the matter and another <br />_attorney should be appointed to represent the City in this case. Alderman <br />Swift moved that Attorney Cbafles Ramsay be appointed, Alderman Moore seconded the <br />motion. Motion carried. <br /> <br />It was suggested by the City Manager that the City Treasurer and <br />another Alderman be authorized to sign City checks. Alderman Younger moved that <br />the City Treasurer Albert Holguin and Alderman Swift be approved for s..e. <br />Motion was se~onded by Alderman Stokes and 1Il0tion carried,} <br /> <br />Norman Jackson, City Meat Inspector, who had been previously granted <br />a 90 day leave of absence in order to campaign for election as County Judge <br />aSked the councii for their approval to return to wo~k for the City. Alderman <br />Ruiz moved that Mr. Jackson be returned to his duties as of May 15, 1962. <br />Alderman Swift seconded the 1Il0tion and motion carried. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />, Ci ty Manager explained that these was an opportunity for one of. <br />the Deity Policemen to attendsn Accident Investigation Course at College Station. <br />A scholarship for the tuition had been granted by ~heHumble Oil Foundation and all <br />that would be necessary was for the Council to.approve the necessary expenses for <br />the man.s meals and lodging. Alderman Stokes moved for approval of these expenses. <br />Alderman Ruiz seconde~ and motion carried. <br /> <br />City Manager announced the meeting of the Municipal League in Uvalde <br />May 18th. and asked that anyone carlng -to attend let it be known so that <br />reservations could be made. <br /> <br />City 'Manager asked for approval of the Council to make pl~ns for a <br />meeting of the Finance Officers Association who have planned to meet in San <br />Marcos June 22nd. Council voiced their approval of the plan and instructed <br />City Manager Fuller to proceed. <br /> <br />The City Manager showed the Council a diagram of the proposed detour <br />routes that would be set up on Austin and Guadalupe street while work on <br />1 Interstate 35 was being completed. Alderman Younger moved that a stop sign be <br />authorized for the Northeast Corner of Guadalupe & Lee Streets~ stopping <br />traffic on Lee street as it entered Guadalupe; a stop Sign on the Southwest corner <br />of Austin and Love streets stopping South Bound traffic on South Austin; that <br />Love Street be one way from Guadalupe to South Austin; and, a Slow Sign to be <br />erected at the entrance of Love Street into South Austin on the Southwest Corner. <br />Alderman Buiz seconded the motion and upon vote. the motion carried unaminously. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />,.\ <br /> <br />,,,(, <br />
