<br />r-~ <br />I 1ft <br /> <br />Regular meeting September 11, 1962 <br /> <br />page 2 <br /> <br />Alderman Swift moved that the annual audit of the City be published. <br />Alderman Ruiz seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. <br /> <br />Alderman Stokes moved that the City Council meet at 7 p.m. in the future. <br />Alderman Ruiz seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. <br /> <br />Alderman Stokes called for a School Traffic Safety Report from the City Manager <br />and the Acting Chief of Police. The City Manager reported on the conferences <br />he had had with public school and college authorities on the traffic problem <br />created by students, and the action he hd4 taken. Acting Chie~ of Police <br />reported the number.ofpatrolmen he had put on duty at peak hours in the <br />school areas. Alderman Stokes stated that he had brought the matter of <br />school traffic safety before the Council at his first meeting as an official <br />in April, and he did not feel that the present method of handling the problem <br />was adequate. He demanded immediate action on the critical situation, even <br />if it necessitated putting five policemen on duty. The City Manager said he <br />would take proper measures the next morning and present a plan of control <br />to the Council. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The City Manager brought up the matter of recelvlng the deed for Sam Houston <br />Park from General Services Administartion, reading aloud the seven covenants... <br />to which the Council must agree in transfer of the property. Alderman Ruiz <br />moved that' the deed be 'accepted. Alderman Swift seconded the motion, which <br />was passed unanimously. <br /> <br />The Ci ty 'Manager called attention to the Summer Recreation Program Comparative <br />Report for 1961-1962, a copy of which had been furnished each Alderman. The <br />report showed a favorable increase in use .and services offered, and the City <br />Manager said plans fOr an even more extensive program were already underway <br />for 1963. Alderman Stokes moved that a letter-of appreciation be sent to <br />every person who assisted with the Summer Program. The motion, seconded by <br />Alderman Ruiz, passed unanimously. <br /> <br />The City Manager brought a letter from Mrs. Bert Miller requesting a stop <br />sign at Mary and Burleson. He stated that a .Master Map was under preparation, I <br />in order to make a blanket recommendation to the Council for installation of <br />lights and stop signs. AldermanR\liz moved that Mrs. Miller's request be <br />granted and leave any other individual requests to be considered in the overall <br />p~an. The motion, seconded by Alderman Swift, passed unanimously. <br /> <br />Alderman Moore moved that Dr. Charles W. Scheib be reappointed City Health <br />Officer. The motion, seconded by Alderman Ruiz, passed unanimously. Alderman <br />Swift suggested that a letter of appreciation for his services be sent Dr. Scheib. <br /> <br />The City Manager imformed the Council that the Presiding Judge of the 22nd <br />Judicial District Court of Hays County, Texas, had "dismissed for want of <br />prosecution'! Cause No. .7256, titledT.A. Breeze. Vs City of San ,Marcos. The <br />suit had been on file and pending on the docket for more than seven yeatrs <br />without affirmative action being taken by the plaintiff. <br /> <br />The Council was informed that Mr. Jack Kercheville woyld be unable to serve <br />as Presiding Judge of Precinct 10 for the Special Urban Renewal Election to <br />be held by the City of San Marcos on September 18, 1962. Alderman Swift <br />~ moved the adoption of an amendment to the Election Ordinance naming <br />Mr. Dare Williams as Presiding Judge of Precinct 10. Alderman Younger <br />seconded the motion, and on roll call the following vote was recorded. <br /> <br />AVEJ Moore, Ruiz, Stokes, Swift and Younger <br />NAY: None <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Whereupon, the Mayor declared the Amendment to the Ordinance PASSED, <br />APPROVEDA~DADOPTED. <br /> <br />Alderman Buiz moved that the Counci1 adjourn to reconvene at 2.p.m., <br />Wednesday, September 19, 1962. The motion; seconded by Alderman Stokes, <br />passed unanimously. <br /> <br />The Mayor declared the meeting adjourned at 9130 p.m. <br /> <br />~ <br />
