<br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ARTICLE
<br />VIII OF THE BUILDING CODE OF THE
<br />CllY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, (SAME
<br />BEING THE NATIONAL BUILDING CODe
<br />OF 1949 AS AMENDED) ADOPTED BY
<br />THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS ON
<br />JANUARY 12, 1955; ADDING A NEW
<br />SECTION TO SECTION a02.2 ROOF
<br />COVERING REQUIRED.
<br />
<br />WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the Governing Body of
<br />the City of San Marcos, Texas, that it would be in the best interest of
<br />the citizens of San Marcos to permit wood shingle roof covering in certain
<br />areas and under certain condifi~;
<br />
<br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Governing Body of the
<br />City of San Marcos, Texas, as follows:

<br />SECTION I, Article a of the City's Bui Iding Code (National Building
<br />Code of 1949, as amended) adopted by the City of San Marcos, Texas, on
<br />January 12, 1955 be amended by adding a new provision to Section a02.2
<br />roof covering required, which shall read as follows:

<br />(4) Outside the fire limits, dwelling, private garages and
<br />barns, separated by at least lwelve feet from other buildings
<br />may be roofed with approved vertical grain or edgegrain wooden
<br />shingles. The combined thickness of each five shingles measured
<br />at the butts shall be not less than lwo inches. The exposure
<br />of such wooden shingles to the weather shall not exceed, on
<br />roof greater than five-24ths pitch, five inches for 16-inch
<br />shingles, five and one-half inches for la-inch shingles, and
<br />seven and one-half inches for 24 inch shingles; nor, on roofs
<br />with less than five-24ths pitch but not less than one-eighth pitch,
<br />three and three-quarters inches for 16-inch shingles, four and
<br />one-quarter inches for la-inch shingles, and five and three-quarters
<br />inches for 24-inch shingles. Such shingles shall be firmly nailed
<br />to the roof deck with corrosion resistant nails according to accepted
<br />good practice. Unless othelWise specified by law, the Commercial
<br />Standard for Wood Shingles, CS 31-52 of the U.S. Department
<br />of Commerce, shall be accepted as means of establishing the grade
<br />of shingles.

<br />SECTION 2. If any word, phrase, clause, sentence or section of this
<br />ordinance shall be deemed unconstitutional or illegal by a court of competent
<br />jurisdiction, then such shall not invalidate the remainder of this ordinance.

<br />SECTION 3. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and
<br />after the date of its legal publication in a newspaper having general circulation
<br />in the City of San Marcos, Texas.
