<br />t:J !~ <br /> <br />., <br /> <br />I ") <br />.;1 <br /> <br />r: <br /> <br />RESOLUT ION <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this nation was conceived in the principle that all men <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />are created equal, and this is understood to mean that all people <br /> <br />should enjoy equality before the law and equal protection of the <br /> <br />laws; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it is the current policy of the federal government and <br /> <br />that of many of the states and communities to establish in fact <br /> <br />these principles long established in theory; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, there reside in the City of San Marcos a large number <br /> <br />of persons sometimes classified as members of "minority groups" <br /> <br />to whom the above equality and justice before the law is often <br /> <br />denied; <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council and Mayor <br /> <br />of San Marcos, Texas, establish and appoint an inter-racial <br /> <br />committee to be known as the Equal Opportunities Committee to be <br />S(',Vi< IV <br />composed of fi,~ members of the community. It shall be the duty of <br /> <br />this 60mmittee to work for the voluntary desegregation of all <br /> <br />public facilities of the community. It shall also be the duty of <br /> <br />this Committee to examine all alleged denials of equal opportunity <br /> <br />to residents of San Marcos in the fields of employment, education, <br /> <br />housing, voting, and the use of public facilities.
