t:J !~ ., I ") .;1 r: RESOLUT ION WHEREAS, this nation was conceived in the principle that all men I are created equal, and this is understood to mean that all people should enjoy equality before the law and equal protection of the laws; and, WHEREAS, it is the current policy of the federal government and that of many of the states and communities to establish in fact these principles long established in theory; and, WHEREAS, there reside in the City of San Marcos a large number of persons sometimes classified as members of "minority groups" to whom the above equality and justice before the law is often denied; I NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council and Mayor of San Marcos, Texas, establish and appoint an inter-racial committee to be known as the Equal Opportunities Committee to be S(',Vi< IV composed of fi,~ members of the community. It shall be the duty of this 60mmittee to work for the voluntary desegregation of all public facilities of the community. It shall also be the duty of this Committee to examine all alleged denials of equal opportunity to residents of San Marcos in the fields of employment, education, housing, voting, and the use of public facilities. Furthermore, it shall be the duty of this Committee to report its findings to the Mayor and City Council in public meetings; and, in cases where equal opportunity has been denied solely because of race, creed, color or sex, to recommend remedial action.
