Sam Junkin, <br />pastor of First Presbyterian Church, gave the Invocation. <br /> <br />Minutes of the previous meetings were approved as presented. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The Mayor recognized Jack Williams, President of the San Marcos <br />Cemetery Association, who brought a communication from the organization. <br />Mr. Williams thanked the City Council for the improvements effected at <br />the Cemetery, and for the successful initiation of Perpetual Care. He <br />stated that this represented more than 15 years' cooperative effort on <br />the part of the City and the Association. He referred to the letter and <br />Perpetual Care Trust Fund financial report received from City Manager Fuller, <br />in which various items of agreement had been restated. He reminded the <br />Council of one further item, the agreement to keep the Lindsey-Harvey lot <br />under Perpetual Care. Councilmen agreed that this provision had been <br />accepted as a responsibility. Mr. Williams said the lots were being cared <br />for; he simply wanted to be sure that it was of record. Mr. Williams <br />mentioned that water pressure near the "chapel" was very lOW, and expressed <br />the hope that this could be corrected. He said the drawings of the ornamental <br />iron gates to be erected at t.he entrance to the Cemetery had been shawn to <br />members of the organization, and drawing #2 had been selected as their <br />preference. Mr. Williams referred to a copy of the Cemetery Association <br />Minutes in which a gift of $1,000 was offered the City to help defray cost <br />of a fence and gates for the Cemetery. He said the Association was now v <br />ready to turn over the money, which amounts to $1024.62. Mr. Williams <br />said the Association would like to recommend that the regulation on <br />plantings be strictly enforced, and that more publicity be give the <br />Perpetual Care Plan, and the improvements being made at the Cemetery. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Alderman Pool moved that Mr. Williams' report be accepted in full, <br />including the recommendations and the choice of gate design, and that <br />the Association be commended for a job well done. Alderman Ruiz seconded <br />the motion, which passed unanimously. <br /> <br />ell <br />::r:: <br />;>- <br />~ <br />I r,;'\f <br /> <br />Mr. James C. Warden appeared before the Council to enquire when <br />Thorp Lane would be paved. He stated he had been given to understand <br />that Thorp Lane was scheduled to be paved before he started construction <br />on Hillside Manor Convalescent Nursing Home, and that he had faced his <br />building that way because of it. Bob Scott of Memorial Hospital appeared <br />with Mr. Warden to verify the Hospital's need for a rear entrance. The <br />Mayor explained to Mr. Warden that it was lack of funds that had held up <br />the opening of Thorp Lane; that the Council recognizes the need far a rear <br />entrance to the Hospital and had discussed it several times. Alderman <br />Stokes told Mr. Warden that the City does not have a policy of buying <br /> <br />09(; <br />
