<br />adjourned regular meeting, january 29, 1964, page two <br /> <br />,\A, <br />{\ <br />\ <br /> <br />The Mayor announced that Charles Barsotti had resigned from the <br />Planning and Zoning Commission because of his removal to Kansas City, <br />and asked for suggestions for a person to fill the vacancy. Councilmen <br />agreed to give the matter of the appointment serious consideration. <br /> <br />Alderman Stokes suggested that the Planning and Zoning Commission be <br />asked to recommend a name for East Hutchison Street. The present <br />confusion of the street name was discussed, and by common consent, it <br />was agreed to ask the Planning and Zoning Commission to suggest a change <br />of name< for the street. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Alderman Stokes introduced a Resolution and moved its approval. <br />The Resolution, which was read in full, took note of the fact that <br />the Board of Regents is in the process of choosing a successor to <br />Dr. John Garland Flowers as President of Southwest Texas State College. <br />The Resolution commended the Board for its high standards in selecting <br />a person to heaq the College. A copy of the Resolution is herewith <br />made' a part of these Minutes. Alderman Ruiz seconded the motion. <br />The Resolution was discussed, several minor changes were made in the <br />wording, and the question being called for, the following vote was <br />recorded: <br /> <br />AYEI <br />NAY I <br />ABsr AINING I <br /> <br />Pool, Ruiz, Stokes <br />None <br />Moore <br /> <br />Whereupon, the Mayor d_eclared the Resolution Passed ancfApproved. <br /> <br />The Mayor proposed that a Resolution be prepared, welcoming the <br />Wally By~m Caravanners to San Marcos. AJderman stokes moved that <br />the City Manager prepare an appropriate resolution, to be presented <br />to the Caravanners by the M~yor at the reception at the Recreation <br />Hall in City Park, February 1. Alderman Pool seconded the motion, <br />which passed unanimously. <br /> <br />Alderman Stokes moved that an appropriate resolution on Dr. Flowers I <br />retirement be prepared by the City Manager, to be presented to <br />Dr. Flowers by the Mayor at the proper time. Alderman Moore seconded <br />the motion, which carried unanimously. <br /> <br />The City Manager informed the Council that the Wallace Addition had <br />been tied into the sewer that afternoon. <br /> <br />The City Manager reported that, as Coordinator of the Camp Gary project, <br />he had requested the Federal Aviation Agency to make an informal inspection <br />of Camp Gary, to determine whether the facilities were suitable for a <br />municipal airport for San MarcoS. Two representatives of FAA were in <br />San Mncos January 28 and spent much time going over the Airport Act <br />(PL 80-289), inspecting Camp Gary, and making helpful suggestions. <br />Alderman Pool introduced a Resolution authorizing B.R. FUller to act for <br />the City in making application for the possible use of Camp Gary as a <br />municipal aitport.
