<br />r q~ ~_. i::f-------.'--- <br /> <br />""'il <br /> <br />RESOLUTION <br /> <br />11 '7 <br /> <br />W HER EA S, by the retirement of Dr. John Garland Flowers, as President <br /> <br />of Southwest Texas State College, the College loses an able administrator, <br /> <br />civic leader and friend; and, <br /> <br /> <br />:1 W HER EA S, through the years the College has' developed to a high <br /> <br />degree of academic proficiency with the result that the City of San <br /> <br />Marcos has attained prominence throughout the Southwest; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in an effort to offer further assistance, the City has'joined <br /> <br />with the College In a multi-million dollar expansion project causing the <br /> <br />City to have a deep interest in the further growth and development of the <br /> <br /> <br />College; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS. the City Council is well aware of the difficult task facing <br /> <br />the Board of Regents in selecting a person to head the College who <br /> <br />'I <br /> <br />possesses the high qualifications of leadership ever maintained as a <br /> <br />standard by the Board; and, <br /> <br />W HER EA S, the City Council has been unofficially advised that Dr. <br /> <br />James Turman, outstanding administrator, prominent educator and person <br /> <br />who has been engaged In diversified areas of public service, is being <br /> <br />considered to fill the vacancy. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council <br /> <br />does express its appreciation to the Board of Regents for considering a <br /> <br />person with Dr. Turman's qualifications for this position. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of San Marcos,representing <br /> <br />.1 <br /> <br />diverse public interests, can commend the Board of Regents for considering <br /> <br />the candidates on their qualifications and ability. <br /> <br />PASSED AND APPROVED this 29th day of January A.D.. 1964. <br /> <br />~~~. <br /> <br />,{Ji;1f1!A#9tJ)'4 ~ <br /> <br />Citysect3rY'\'x/V" <br />
