<br />~57 <br /> <br />PRO C lAM A T ION <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Our nation's future is dependent on its abil ity <br />to grow and advance economically and spiritually in <br />harmony with all its citizens; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Our progress in promoting world and domestic <br />peace and in assuring advances in the frontiers of <br />medicine, science, the arts, industry, and the social <br />sciences depends in large part on the ful lest educational <br />opportunities for al I; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Our American educational system, offering free, <br />universal education for al I citizens, has become a source <br />of great strength to American democratic principles; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, It has been demonstrated that educat ion pays <br />dividends in better human relations, in improved earning <br />power, in personal fulfillment, in good citizenship, in <br />national economic growth, in better communities, and in <br />international relations; and <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />WHEREAS, our educational system is confronted with grave <br />problems requiring deep public understanding and public <br />action, <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, I, Frank Taylor, Mayor of the City of <br />San Marcos, Texas, do hereby designate November 8-14,1964, <br />to be AMERICAN EDUCATION WEEK and urge al I citizens to <br />work toward the resolution of the problems besetting these <br />public schools and to rededicate themselves to the provis- <br />ion of quality educational opportunities for all citizens. <br /> <br />IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused <br />the Seal of the City to be affixed this 8th day of November, <br />A.O., 1964. <br /> <br />J~'?~ <br /> <br />Frank Taylor <br />Mayor <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />ATTEST: (t' <br />- ' I <br />, .
