A
semantic discussion ensued, with various suggestions
for rewordit1g the motion. Aldermat1 Damon asked what
mait1tenat1ce of the Gary air faci lities would cost the
City per year. The City Manager said he would have to
revise the budget sent in with the origit1al appl icat-
ion, sit1ce changes had been made it1 the t1umber of
bui Idit1gs , etc. to be made avai lable. He had estimat-
ed a budget of some $58,000 per year for the facilities
on the origit1al applicatiot1, with a comparable it1come I
to the City to offset the cost. He stated that at the
time of the applicatiot1, he had signed commitments from
persot1s at1d firms that had asked for use of some of the
faci lities that would have offset the estimated cost.
He repeated that the budget would have to be re-worked
in accordance with the reduced area involved. Mr. Fuller
enumerated some of the sources of it1come that could be
expected from the facilities. Alderman Damot1 returned
to the proper wording of the motiot1 before the Cout1ci I,
saying that, it1 his opinion, the Cout1ci I simply wanted
to rescind its previous actiot1. Rodgers Storey, recog-
t1ized by the Mayor, said he felt that everyot1e it1 Sat1
Marcos wanted the City to acquire the $3,000,000 air
faci lities at Gary, "the greatest asset San Marcos
could have". He reminded the Cout1ci I that the City
could not retain t~tle to the preset1t airport lat1d
unless it is used to operate at1 airport. He said that
a good profit could be made from the sale of gasolit1e
at Gary Airport. He suggested that "postpot1e" be used
it1 the wordit1g of the motiot1 before the Cout1ci I. After
more discussion, Aldermat1 Pool made the following substi-
tute mot i on: "I move that (I) the City Mat1ager be given I
authority to negotiate for a use permit of the airport
area at the former Gary AFB whi Ie the fit1al transactiot1
is being completed; at1d (2) the City Cout1ci I postpone
indefinitely, at1d ut1ti I further t1otice, last Mot1day
night's action with regard to the old Mut1icipal Airport
on f 35 S." Alderman Froh, as seconder of the origit1al
motion, accepted the substitute motiot1. 0t1 rol I call,
the fol lowit1g vote was recorded:

AYE:
NAY:
ABSTAINING:

Damot1, Froh, Pool
Not1e
Whittet1berg

The Mayor declared the motion carried.

The meetit1g adjourt1ed at 6:00
the cal I of the Mayor.

........-., ,....
>'J'
U~ 'I~~/
EI lis Serur, Mayor

p. m., to rec:~t1~7)at
/17{Pk~

! )oe C.
