special meeting, sept. 2, 1965 page two Alderman Damon introduced a subject for future consideration: the action the City Counci I wi II take on the old mUnicip~1 airport. He referred to the deed restrictions mentioned by Mr. Beecroft and Mr. Lowman at the August 9th meeting of the Counci I. The Mayor said he had asked the City Man- ager and the City Attorney to come to a complete understanding in reference to the airport property. Mr. Damon reviewed some of the transactions that had taken place when land was secured for the old airport. Alderman Damon moved that the City take immediate action to determine the future use of the present municipal airport, and to notify Mr. Robert Lowman and Mr. Sam Beecroft that such action is being started immediately. Alderman Tuttle seconded the motion. Alderman Pool asked if the investigation were "exploratory"; Alderman Damon replied: "Yes - to let the people know we are not going to procras- t i nate" . The Mayor requested that letters of appreciation be written to al I the individuals and government agencies that had assisted the City of San Marcos in acquiring the airport facilities at Gary. Mr. Serur said he also wanted to commend City Manager Fuller for his untiring effol.ts on the project: I "You have done a fine job, Mr. Fuller", the Mayor said. Caro I yn Chand I er, reporter for the Hays County C i t i zen, asked the Counci I two questions: I. "How about a clarification on the City's policy on notifying the Press about City events?" 2. "What is the City's policy on publication of legal notices and announcements?" The Mayor answered that the City Secretary is requir- ed to notify the Press on matters with which they wil I be concerned. Dr. Pool asked Mrs. Chandler If she had been notified about the ceremony that morning transfer- ing the Gary airport faci lities to the City; he had not- iced she was not present. The City Secretary said she had cal led Mrs. Chandler's office and got no reply; had called her home and found her absent; had left word with her husband. On the second question, the City Manager explained that only penal ordinances are required to be published. He sa i d the City has no "po I icy"; when he came to San Marcos I as City Manager, there was only one newspaper~ and the City had continued to use The Record for publications. The Mayor offered the suggestion that perhaps, now that there are two newspapers in circulation in San Marcos, the City could publish legal notices in both. ~ t f
