Tuttle <br /> <br />Gentlemen: <br /> <br />At the Council meeting of October 11, 1965, Alderman Whittenberg <br />introduced a resolution and move.d tithe Council go on record <br />to instruct the LPA to conclude the Chatauqua Hill Project, <br />and not to receive any new projects; to conclude and liquidate <br />their business and close their office." A majority of the <br />Couuc.i 1 voted "Aye. rr <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I feel I am morally obligated to exercise my power of veto on <br />the Council's action of October 11, 1965. I have registered <br />my veto with the City Secretary, in accordance with provision <br />of the statutes. <br /> <br />I have the responsibility to consider the City as a whole, and <br />the future betterment which could result from properly exe- <br />cuted Urban Renewal projects would, in my opinion, benefit <br />the whole. <br /> <br />In support of this veto I submit: <br /> <br />(1) Previous administrations of this City have <br />been criticized for their lack of planning and <br />development of the river; <br /> <br />(2) The provision of adequate parks and the con- <br />servation of river frontage for public use has been <br />of concern to the City Administration, civic groups, <br />and individuals; <br /> <br />(3) The electorate of the City of San Marcos ap- <br />proved development through urban renewal projects <br />by a majority of eight-and-a-half to one; <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />(4) One of the factors influencing this favorable <br />vote was the acquisition of the west bank of the <br />San Marcos River and its use for civic and recrea- <br />tional development; <br /> <br />(5) It is believed the interest of the majority <br />of the citizens can best be served through a <br />
