recessed meeting, page two, october 18, 1965

of being a person who has gotten his share but has denied the rest of
the program to go through." He said further that he was here to express
his appreciation to the community and the citizens, who had allowed
the College to go ahead with its own project before the river project
could get underway. He also noted that the College brings a sizeable
amount of income into the City.

Dr. McCrocklin said that there were many areas in which San Marcos
could be made better; among these areas he cited the need for a new
library, better sewer systems, planning, and a new City Hall. He
concluded by statft1gthat he strongly supports the continuation of the
river project so that the average citizen may have a place to enjoy
within the community.

I

Here Mr. Whittenberg inserted the comment that not all of the
citizens were for Urban Renewal and that if the program did not move
forward, then the opposi tion "wi 11 become greater and greater."

At this time Mr. Frank Martinez, Mrs. J. D. Cummings, and others
spoke regarding acquisition of property; and a lady speaking in be-
half of Mrs. Lela Mae Bethke came forward to speak regarding value
of payment for property. Several spoke of their own problems concerning
the project; most of these had to do with the inability to make im-
provements on their homes in the project area.

The meeting was adjourned by the Mayor at 8:45 p.m.

)/
---/~_//. ,;:.. >- '
l---t/L'~

//
',/-::'~'/1.J"_"'C.__

Ellis Serur

/)
; d.,
~0J<X-fl/

4'Q,--~~
~...

I

Caesar Damon

011
( /\
/1- f 1 ), ,
i. v(.J.. ~".Gt_~L,l~/tL,{-,jG
William C.
