<br />december I, 1965 <br /> <br />page three <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The Mayor opened discussion on the need for a new dog <br />pound, deferred from the Nov. 22 meeting. James Burwel I, <br />Sanitation Engineer, and Dr. Andrew J. Tickle, City Vet- <br />erinarian, both spoke on the need for a sanitary, escape- <br />proof pound that would be adequate for incarcerating dogs <br />during inclement weather. Mr. Burwel I presented itemized <br />cost figures and stated he felt that by using City labor <br />and salvage material where possible, the pound could be <br />built for $2800., The matter was thoroughly discussed. <br />Alderman Pool moved that the pound be bui It. Alderman <br />Froh seconded the motion and on 1'01 I cal I, the fol lowing <br />vote was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: <br />NAY: <br /> <br />Damon,,' Froh, Pool.. <br />Whittenberg <br /> <br />The Mayor declared the motion carried. <br /> <br />The Mayor read aloud a request from a number of residents <br />of Cool Street, asking that the name of their street be <br />changed to "Dale". Previously in different subdivisions, <br />the streets are continuous and should bear one name. <br />Alderman Pool moved that Cool Street be changed to Dale. <br />Alderman Damon seconded the motion and on roll call, the <br />following vote was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: <br />NAY: <br /> <br />Damon, Froh, Pool, Whittenberg <br />None <br /> <br />The Mayor declared the motion carried. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />J.B. Roberts, Chairman of the Planning and Zoning Commission, <br />extended an invitation to the Counci I to meet with that body <br />on Dec. 7, at 7:30 p.m. Dr. J.H. McCrocklin, President of <br />Southwest Texas State College and former Mayor of Kingsvi lie, <br />was announced as the speaker, his subject to be "The City of <br />Kingsvi I Ie and its Master Plan." <br /> <br />Progress on the rehabi litation of the Municipal Airport (Gary) <br />was discussed. In the course of the discussion, Alderman Froh <br />proposed that the Mayor appoint 01'. Pool Acting Airport Manager, <br />so that a knowledgeable and responsible person would be ~vai lable <br />to contact on problems arising from the City's efforts to get <br />the Airport in condition for use upon receipt of the title from <br />GSA. The Mayor accepted the suggestion, and, with common consent <br />of the Counci I, appointed Alderman Pool Acting Airport Manager. <br /> <br />Upon motion of Alderman Whittenberg, the Council went into <br />executive session at 8:50 p.m., to discuss applicants for <br />City Manager. <br /> <br />E X E CUT I V E <br /> <br />S E S S ION <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Alderman Whittenberg, as Chairman of the Committee to Select <br />a City Manager, stated that Alderman Tuttle regretted the <br />necessity for his absence and had agreed that the Counci I <br />should take action without him in the matter of employing a <br />City Manager. MI'. Whittenberg said the choice had narrowed <br />to two men. After discussion of the merits of the two appli- <br />cants, it was unanimously agreed, on motion of Alderman Pool, <br />that the Counci I employ W.E. Wolff of E) Campo, at a salary <br />of $12,000 per year, with car furnished. <br /> <br />The meeting adjourned at 9:45 p.m. <br />
