<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />~ ['-( <br /> <br />PRO C LAM A T ION <br /> <br />The President of the United States, by direction of an <br /> <br />Act of Congress, and the Governor of the State of Texas <br /> <br />have procl aimed Apr i I as Cancer Contra I Month. <br /> <br />The magnitude of the problem of cancer needs to be recog- <br /> <br />nized here in our own community, for if the present rates <br /> <br />continue, one out of every four persons wi II be struck by <br /> <br />cancer - almost every fami Iy in our city wi II have exper- <br /> <br />ience with this dread disease. Expanded research offers <br /> <br />the prospect of new cures and possible new preventive meas- <br /> <br />ures, but increased voluntary support of American Cancer <br /> <br />Society programs is needed to help save more lives today <br /> <br />and to increase the prospect of eventually saving all lives <br /> <br />from cancer. <br /> <br />In this coming month, our friends and associates here in <br /> <br />San Marcos wi II carryon the "Tell Your Neighbor" Crusade, <br /> <br />visiting you in your homes, and distributing life-saving <br /> <br />information through pamphlets and discussions. <br /> <br />The funds you give as voluntary contributions, collected <br /> <br />and distributed by devoted volunteer workers, represent the <br /> <br />best community spirit at work - citizens of our city joining <br /> <br />forces with other Americans to combat and defeat the dread <br /> <br />disease, cancer. <br /> <br />Therefore, I urge the citizens of San Marcos to participate <br /> <br />in the activities of Cancer Control Month and observe Apri I <br /> <br />19th as Cancer Crusade Day, giving generaus2support to the <br /> <br />American Cancer Society's annual effort to raise funds vitally <br /> <br />needed for its program of Education, Service and Research. <br /> <br />In official recognition whereof, <br /> <br />hereby affix my signature <br /> <br />this 29th day of March, A.D. 1966. <br /> <br />I rr <br /> <br />Ie <br />
