<br />2:" <br />,)~ <br /> <br />PRO C LAM A T ION <br /> <br />Today, with a rapidly increasing population we must be <br /> <br />more aware of the value of OUr natural resources. These <br /> <br />God-given resources, so; I, water, plant and wildlife, <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />must not only be conserved but improved. <br /> <br />Land is being taken from agriculture with the bui 'ding <br /> <br />of cities, highways, factories, airports, parks and <br /> <br />water reservoirs. This is progress, but it does caUse <br /> <br />our farmers and ranchers to have to intensify land use <br /> <br />for increased production. The responsibi lities for the <br /> <br />conservation of these resources is by law given to the <br /> <br />Soi I Conservation Districts and their Supervisors in <br /> <br />Texas. <br /> <br />Today there are 183 Soi I Conservation Districts encom- <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />passing better than ninety-nine percent of the land of <br /> <br />our State. These Soi I Conservation Districts and the <br /> <br />landowners who govern them, assisted by many organi- <br /> <br />zations and agencies, are proving that through proper <br /> <br />land use our soi I conservation practices wi 1 I stabi lize <br /> <br />so ii, conserve our water, and improve each acre for <br /> <br />better quality foods and fiber. <br /> <br />As these resources are conserved and developed we are <br /> <br />making possible the continued strength of our State and <br /> <br />assuring our people of a continuing high standard of <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I iving.
