DEFINITIONS: For the purpose of clarification, it is the intent of this Ordinance that the following words or phrases shall be interpreted to have the meaning as out- lined below: Accessory building: In a residential district, a subordinate building, attached to or detached from the main building, without separate utilities, and not used for comrfrercial purpose, or rented. It may be used as servants. quarters, a washroom, storage room for domestic storage belonging to the owner or tenant only, or a space for one or mOTe automobiles owned by the owner, tenant or guests. In districts other than residential, an accessory building is a subordinate building the use of which is incidental to and used only in conjunction with the main building. I Apartment: A room in an apartment house occupied by not more than two in- dividuals; or~ a suite of rooms arranged, designed, or occupied as a residence by a single family, indivldua~_ or groyps of individuals. Apartment House: A building designed, built, rented, leased, let or hired out to be occupied by three (3) or more apartments or which is occupied as the home or residence of three (3) or more families or indivuals, living independently of each other. Area of the Lot: The area of the lot shall be the net area of the lot and shall not include portions of streets and alleys. Block: An area enclosed by streets and occupied by or intended for buildings; or, if said word is used as a term of measurement, it shall mean the distance along a side of a street between the nearest two (2) streets which intersect said street. Boarding House: A building other than a hotel where lodging and meals for three (3) or more persons are served for compensation. Building: Any structure built for the support, shelter and/or enclosure of persons, chattels or moveable property of any kind. I Building Line: A line parallel or approximately parallel to the street right-of-way property line and bey-ond which no building shall be erected. Business: Includes local, retail, commercial, or such other uses, and dis- tricts as herein defined. Ceiling: No ceiling shall be less than 7 ft. in height. Cellar: That portion of a building between the ground and the floor joist which is partly below and partly above grade but so located that the vertical distance from grade to the floor below ground is greater than the vertical dis- tance from grade to the first floor joist or ceiling if there be no floor above the cellar portion. Apartment Hotel: Any building larger than an ~n apartment house designed or built to be occupied as a series of separate apartments and by persons living independently of each other. Clinic, Medical: An institution or station for the examination and treat- ment of ill and afflicted out-patients. 2 Convalescent Home: Any structure used for or occupied by persons recovering from illness or suffering from the infirmities of old age. Court: An open, unoccupied space, bounded on more than two (2) sides by buildings. An inner court is a court entirely surrounded by the exterior walls of a building. An outer court is a court having one (1) side open to a street, alley, yard or other permanently open space. I Customary Home Occupations: A customary home occupation is an occupation customarily carried on in the home by a member of the occupant's family without structural alterations in the building or any of its rooms, without the installa- tion of machinery other than that customary to normal household operation or ad- ditional equipment without the employment of additional persons, and which does not cause the generation of additional traffic in the street and which does not require the display of a sign.
