<br />budget hearing & meeting <br /> <br />9/1(66 <br /> <br />page two <br /> <br />The Mayor introduced an item pf business discussed at a <br />previous meeting: the opportunity to purchase from the <br />A.M. Ramsay Estate 3.22 acres of land adjacent to the <br />Cemetery, at a cost of $10,000. Need for ~dditional <br />space in the Cemetery was established. The City Manager <br />stated the cost was justified by returns from sales of <br />cemetery lots over a period of time. He explained that <br />it had not been included in the 1967 Budget, but that <br />time warrants cou I d be issued, if author i zed by the I <br />Counci I. The real estate agent acting for the Ramsay <br />Estate asked for a commitment from the City that the <br />land would be purchased, with a $500 payment at this <br />time. The matter was further discussed. Alderman Damon <br />moved the purchase be made and the City Manager author- <br />ized to issue warrants to cover it. E . Butt, telli ngh i m that the offer from <br />the H.E. Butt of a $10,000 gift toward bui Iding a <br />public swimming pool for San Marcos sti I I stands. The <br />original offer was made sev6ral years ago, at a time <br />when the City could not afford purchase of a proper <br />site for a pool., Counci Imen expressed appreciation <br />for Mr. Butt's generous offer, and hope that, with I <br />the gift of $10,000, a pool could be included in the <br />plans for improvement in San Marcos. <br /> <br />Alderman Damon reported briefly on a joint meeting of <br />State Highway Engineers with the City's Committee on <br />I 35 Access Roads Traffic and the Chamber of Commerce <br />Highway Committee. Mr. Damon eXplained he was a mem- <br />ber of the Chamber of Co~merce Committee. He asked <br />Miss Dessie Thomas, member of the City's committee, to <br />give the results of the meeting. Miss Thomas reviewed <br />the events leading up to the joint meeting. She stated <br />the State Highway Department, had been under the impress i on <br />that the City \Vas not interested in further discussion on <br />returning I 35 Access Roads to two-way tr.affic. She said <br />she had corrected the fatse impression. The Engineers <br />agreed to init~ate a new traffic count to determine the <br />effect on traffic load ofthe~ompl~tion of the extension <br />of RM 12 through San Marcos. After disbussion, AI~erman <br />Damon moved that the City Counei I accept the Highway Dept:s <br />suggestion to chbnge servi~e roads on I 35 south to Redwood <br />Road at onc6, and to thank them for the suggestion th~t <br />Mr. Tom Woods make an immediate traffic count on the north I <br />end of service road 1 35 to Loop 82 to determine if that <br />section likewise might be converted back to two-way traffic. <br />Alderman Korff seconded the motion and on rol I cal I the <br />following vote \Vas recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: <br />NAY: <br /> <br />Damon, Froh, Korff, Pool, Whittenberg <br />None <br /> <br />The Mayor declared the motion carried. <br /> <br />The meeting adjourned at 9: 16 p.m. <br />
