The question being called for, the following <br />vote was recorded; <br /> <br />AYE: <br />NAY: <br /> <br />Craddock, Damon, Flores, Korff, Pool, Whittenberg <br />None <br /> <br />The Mayor Pro Tem declared the motion carried. <br /> <br />Dr. Poo I introduced a :-1etter tab I ed from the prev i ous I <br />meeting: approval of a zoning change from "P-2" to "D" <br />on property adj acent to Southwest Texas State Go liege; <br />A plat of the area and a large zoning map were examined. <br />It was explained that since the College wi II not require <br />this property for expansion, the Planning & Zoning Comm- <br />isiion had initiated B change in zoning to "0", multi- <br />fami Iy, for tighter restrictions on the land adjacent to <br />the Co II ege. The matter was di scu ssed at length. Counc i 1- <br />man Whittenberg moved that the College send a representat- <br />i ve to the Counc i I to exp I a i nwhy a change of zon i ng had <br />been recommended. Counci Iman Flores seconded the motion <br />and on rol I call, the fol lowing vote was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: <br />NAY: <br /> <br />Craddock, Damon, Flores, Korff, Pool, Whittenberg <br />None <br /> <br />The Mayor Pro Tem declared the motion carried. <br /> <br />Celestino Mendez, jr., spokesman for the local chapter <br />of the American G.I. Forum, came before the Counci I to <br />request the City's part i c i pat ion in a proposed USDA <br />Surplus Commoditi,es program for San Marcos. Mr. Mendez <br />exp La i ned the p,rogram, say i ng members ,of the G. I, Forum <br />would work with State Welfare, employees, on establish- <br />ing eligibi I ity for assistance. G.I. Forum would also <br />handle distribution. Mr. Mendez said Hays CountyComm- <br />i ssioners Court had. agreed to support the program with <br />an $800 subsidy, and asked the City for an equal amount. <br />After discussi,on, the Counci I agreed by common consent <br />to request representatives of the G.I. Forum to consult <br />with City Manager Bean to work out detai Is of ihe City's <br />participation in the Surplus Commodities Program. <br />Dr, Craddock commended the G.I.Forum for undertaking the <br />project. Mr. Korff offere,d the use ,of a truck to ass'; st <br />in hauling supplies from the warehouse in ,Austin for <br />distribution in San Marcos. <br /> <br />Dr. Poo I read a loud a I etter of a:pprec i,&"ti'oW from the <br />fami Iy of the late Sgt. Edward Gaytan, thanking the Coun- <br />ci I fa,r the Resolution passed when the.Marine Sargeant <br />was ki I led in action in Viet Nam. <br /> <br />Dr. Pool also read a postal from the vacationing Mayor. <br />He wrote that he and Mrs, .Serur. had been .given "the red <br />carpet treatment" when they pa i,d a cour~esy ca lito San <br />Marcos' "sister city", San Marcos, Cali'f. <br /> <br />The meeting ,adjourned a~ 8: I} p.m. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />()f).iQd~uJ2~s:~ <br />W il I I am C.
