11/

~
L of San-;A1arcos

POST OFFICE BOX 726/SAN MARCOS, TEXAS 78666/AC 612 392-2417

August 29, 1968

Honorable Mayor and City Council
City of San Marcos
San Marcos, Texas

Honorable Mayor and Members of the Council:

The Planning and Zoning Commission of the City of San Marcos discussed at its
August 20th meeting the Council's proposed annexation of ten-plus acres, belonging
to Mr. W. H. Hamilton, Jr.

I

The Commission feels that this matter should have first been brought to the
Planning and Zoning Commission for consideration and recommendation to the Council.

We are certain that the Council is aware that this property, which is adjacent to
the Lightfoot Addition, is part of the overall annexation recommended to the Coun-
cil by the Commission in 1967. The annexation proposed by the Planning and Zoning
Commission has been repeatedly put aside, pending study of the feasibil ity of
serving this area with comparable City services.

We feel that you would be doing the taxpayers of San Marcos a disservice to annex
lands that could remain vacant for some time. The City would be obligated to fur-
nish City services, with little or no return. It would be passing over an area
adjacent to this acreage that is already built up, occupied by people who enjoy most
of the City services without being taxed for these services.

We recommend that the City Council annex all of the property designated in the 1967
proposal, as action taken by the Council August 12th indicates that Members no lon-
ger feel that providing services to this area is prohibitive.

We realize that the Council is trying to stop one leak in the dike, but feel that
this action is selective, and that all of the other areas are just as important as
this one.

I

/
/

~ere ly yours,
,~
,)

(J.
