Allbright, Jack Major, <br />Frank Pennington, Charlotte.,.Crisp, Ken Cumpton <br /> <br />The Mayor called the meeting to order at 4;30 p.m. and welcomed <br />County Officials and other guests. <br /> <br />Mr. Serur read aloud the following communication, dated Oct.17,1968: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />#To the Honorable Mayor and San Marcos City Council; <br />"To the Honorable County Judge and Hays County Commissioners Court: <br /> <br />#We, the undersigned funeral homesj regr~t to inform you and <br />the citizens of this community that effective at midnight, <br />November 30, 1968 we will discontinue the operation of our <br />ambulance service. <br />"For many years we have faced an ever expending problem in <br />cost and manpower. Now, a new interpretation by the United <br />StateS Department of Labor places a~bulance service in inter- <br />$tate commerce. As a r'esul t, the cost of private 'ambulance <br />service in a small community has become prohibitive. <br />"This action is not confined to our area alone. It is nationwide. <br />"As of midnight, November 10, 1968, we therefore will relinquish <br />our ambulance permits to the Texas State Health Department and <br />sur~ender our ambulante liability inaurance. <br />"We deeply regret this situation having been fOrced upon us. <br />Nevertheless, our primary concern is continued service to thmse <br />in need.
