I

I

I

West Oso Independent School District
OFFICil OF THE SUPERli'lTENDENT
5050 RClcl~ford Street
Corpus Christi, T eXae. 78415

February 10, 1969

Eon. ~llis Serur
~ayor, San harcos
P.O. Box 725
San Marcos, Texas 78666

De ar ~\'Jr. fJiU.yor:

Sometime in the fall of 1967 1 wrote a letter addressed to you and the
[lonorable City Council of San Narcos requesting your candid consider-
ation of the proposition to change the present name of Fredericksburg
Street to Peter Garza street. I" your acknowledging letter of Septe!;]-
ber, 1967, you acivised me tImt I would be notified of the action of
the Council after due consideration of my re~uest. ~iince I bave not
heard, I thought I would bring up the subject once more.

Jls state6 in my previous letter, the changing of Fredericksburg Street
to .Peter Garza Street would not only honor the memory of a young man,
Corporal Peter Garza, who died while in the armed services of his land
during Viorld i'ar II hut also his father, Peter Garza, who as a very old
resident of the city has been a steadying influence for young and old.
His family has made modest but steady contributions to the city in the
areas of education, athletics and politics, as well as in the overall
activities benefitting the city welfare and progress.

It was also poj.nted out in the previous letter that the request for a
d,ange in the name of a street is not without precedent as for example,
~dward Gary Street and LBJ Drive and a few others named for sons of San
i'~arcos .

If in the process of considering the above request tbere sbould be any
further information desired by the City and Council and you, Hr. Hayor,
I shall be most happy to furnish whaj>ever may be requested.

In behalf of the Garza family I wish GO express our appreciation to the
Honorable Mayor and City Council for the consideration given to the
request. vie trust that it will be studieQ in a favorable light and
that the decision shall be comensurate with the consideration. I
hereby tender my anticipated thanks for adviSing me of your decision
at your earliest convinience.
